City may have been on the fence with this and then saw who got appointed to a high up position at UEFA and thought 'feck this.'

We and Chelsea were given late option, we swallowed, even if they don't particularly like the taste.

Ok Im completely lost now..

Are we just tlaking transfers or the super league etc as well.....

From what I can gather it looks like we have potentially 3-4 transfer targets (there is another quote) ....

Haaland
Grelish
Messi?????
Nuno Mendes

We have joined the dark side and gone with the super league proposals - better to be with the cartel than against them????

We remain focused on the transfer targets we have. Re your second point, pretty much the long and short of it.

I still believe There is a New Hope

whats the new hope.....?

Do you think the super league proposals will get stopped somehow...or do we have a new hope regarding transfers......

Foden's progression has changed our priorities? Or the progression of someone in the EDS (palmer, Delap?)
Or Messi has given us new hope of him joining
or a new target has come to light

If this new setup goes forward we ain't going to be signing any Major players in the future, they will all be going to Madrid,Barca and the rags as they will again be able to fund it.

you think we’ve agreed to this without an agreement in place between the clubs?

expect a salary cap and franchise player tags.

A plan will have been made to ensure everyone gets their man to start this with a bang

Thing that concerns me is the distribution of the money will eventually be based on viewing via the streaming outlets, would imagine Amazon will be at the front of the queue. The status quo will revert to 10yrs ago.

Surely now there may be a shit load of money for the debt clubs from this ESL, they suddenly now come into the running for all our targets ?

There are other things in play. The money they get from the institutions will go straight back to the institutions they already owe!

The good thing is that City don't owe anybody, so we will have a spending advantage for a while yet.

The resentment/hatred at board level between say City and Dortmund or City and Villa just went up tenfold. There’s no way that doesn’t make the deals more difficult.

It could actually make them easier. They aren't able to count on the premise of funding from TV companies who will already be revising down their existing TV deals?

I'm not seeing too many upsides, although I have always felt the Champions League needed to get rid of some of the dead wood and meaningless fixtures?

The American controlled teams are controlled by the American banks, hence why it is clearly heavily weighted against guaranteed future income, those clubs that will also be able to count on massive digital PPV.

America wins, all-ends-up.

The only real upside from the Super League is I do think it's a shame that potentially the greatest side in this club's history never played any European giants. We never actually got to see them pit themselves against the best of the best because we stumbled before hand against domestic sides, and actually even if we'd gone all the way we'd have had a couple of finals vs. Madrid or Bayern maybe, but otherwise nothing.

The reaction to the Madrid wins last season was massive, because it's genuinely enjoyable to see your side up against the so called best and beat them. The win vs. Bayern under Pellegrini is often called one of our best European games even though it was pretty meaningless.

I'd have loved to see the 2017-2019 team play a few games against Bayern and Barca. The Champions League has always felt like a very unsatisfactory way of deciding who the best team in the world is.

So we'll get that from the Super League, I just wonder how long before those fixtures lose their shine from being over played - that will come down to the finer details of the structure.

I suspected that would be the case. Fucked if you do, fucked if you don't.
I still believe there will be some twists and turns before this is set in stone.

I can see it on here in ten seasons time after another win against Barcelona:
'do you remember the good old days when we used to get the likes of Shakhtar and Villarreal. Bloody hell the magic nights at the Etihad....'

Do you think our self restraint player purchase and wage policies rather than FFP constraints will continue or will we be forced to exceed those figures?
I accept that our rivals still have debt mountains to climb but this is how they live, this is how they continue to survive.

I would Imagine that the financial advantage we had over others previously might not be as obvious now..
The good news is I think we'll still get Grealish..

I think all bets are off again, bud.

No doubt some of our rivals will suddenly find more money to break more records.

The optics of City or another breakaway team spending £100m plus this summer just became a whole lot worse!
