They’re worried about their jobs. This could hit Sky hard
Yep - I cannot see sky getting any of the rights to this hence their posturing and damnation of it all - they were born when the did the same back in 92 and propped up united each week and didn't bat an eyelid

TV and streaming has moved on. Amazon and the other big boys will pocket this

If UEFA ban players from any of the breakaway clubs from the Euros it could be interesting. Could a player challenge their contract with a club if they are unable to play international games anymore?
It's all hot air, banning players won't happen, without top players they don't have a competition worth watching

I’ve not even bothered to check what the UEFA proposals are. Is it true some ‘elite teams’ will get in even if they didn’t qualify on merit? If so, I’d be out anyway. Fuck that.
The only thing making it better than the breakaway league is it would have less damaging effects on the premier league. Still, what a load of shite.

I don't have any love for UEFA. I don't have any objection to a shake-up of European football.

I do object to 12-20 teams deciding that they are the elite, can do whatever the frig they want, take all the money in the game, and tell hundreds/thousands of other professional football clubs with decades of history to sod off.
but the elite have been acting this way under uefa and the premier league. Nothing will change but we might have a fairer shot at success. It’s not fair on Leicester is all I hear but it has not been fair on city from 2012. Show me the clubs that stood up for us?

May as well close the turnstyles (with this pandemic they already have). Fans will be a thing of the past for ESL purposes. It will be tv rights, streaming rights, online merchandising will be for home fans and day trippers because there will be no away fans (due to the total price of a day out).

I understand that sources quote 'clubs are looking at younger fans', ho ho fucking ho, I hope they all have super jobs with ridiculous income, as for kids and family days out, forget it. Unless you are taken to a match when you are a kid, there is a damn good chance that the latest breed will all be fairweather fans, changing their 'allegiance' depending on which way the breeze is coming from, and who is on Amazon Prime on any given night.

There's still a way to go but if this happens, the future of football as I know it is BLEAK.
But TV rights are worthless if there is no crowd at the event. Thats why the PL became the most lucrative league for TV, partly because of the competition but also because every match pretty much is sold out (or near as dammit). Serie A with its half empty stadiums fell away for TV money after their glory era, German games surged as their stadiums filled back up again with cheap tickets and fan power. You can't sell TV rights for a game played in front of a half empty stadium for as much as one played in front of a full one, whoever the teams are. Closest thing to being there etc.

Fan boycotts have not worked in the past as there are too many people who refuse to miss a game, but we have all faced missing games now for over a year. A mass coordinated boycott by all fans of these clubs would kill it stone dead.

NFL and NBA games are packed and tickets almost impossible to get hold of at face value, but it simply won't be the case if an equivalent version happens here.

Kaveh solhekol on SSN is such a smug little prick.
Totally against the ESL but he’s almost making me want it to go ahead just to piss him off. Keeps repeating himself “how can it be a super league, city are in it and they haven’t even been in a European final” how about you call out the US owners who are driving this you bell....is it because your paymaster is murdoch? Constantly trying to point out City as the bad guys (which we are here but only 1 of 12!!)
He's only bringing that up because of the farce of spurs being in it, at the moment the disbelief is Fucking spurs are part of it

I wish they'd done an IPl / The Hundred cricket franchise type competition. We, legacy supporters, are clearly no longer their target audience so they should not be using our club for their corrupt, closed competition.

Ceferin is a prick - and he has the audacity to say the proposed competition is a spit in the face to all of football - they have just effectively created a bigger closed shop themselves than the one they currently run

Ceferin can fuck off as well

No doubt the club was put in a hard place - either make a principled stand and refuse to join as a founding partner or leap in now and suffer the wrath of some fans, media and of course UEFA. I understand completely why they chose the second option - It's kind of like what ultimately went wrong with the Common Market - we didn't join originally and by the time we did many of the rules and principles were already set in stone favouring the initial member states. We all know how this ultimately ended ha!

So, if we had declined and perhaps the SL becomes a huge success with certain rules and regs it would be hard to have a voice coming on board as a new partner. I don't necessarily agree with it at all but I suspect that if it happens it will be successful and despite what some say those who were there at the start will have a much better hand and more influence. Plus the financial gains will be huge. We all know how we have been made to feel by UEFA in the recent past - the new rich kids on the block and not worthy of our place - only in it because we have money etc etc. I don't recall at any time them referring to our wonderful past and how this club has meant so much to so many for decades. I don't recall any one saying how our owners have transformed a part of the City that was in decline and have helped put Manchester on the map in some ways.

I don't like that this is driven by FSG and Utd's owners but sometimes it's always best to keep your friends close and your enemies even closer.

Final two thoughts - I think UEFA has been very arrogant for a number of years and will have zero sympathy for them if the CL falls apart by becoming a second rate competition. The way we have been treated in the competition sucks so I for one won't lose any sleep about it. Of course it's still not written in stone that it will happen but if it means we are treated with more respect I'm ok with it.

I also don't buy into some of the reactions today - most will be because they fear change to what has become a gravy train for a group of the most ill talented pundits and commentators there are. The football media should be perhaps thinking of using this to pressure the big 12 or whatever number it is to assist lower league clubs by the PL allowing a second team to be associated with smaller clubs in the area - this would increase fan bases as teams will have a certain number of players like a young Phil Foden to watch before they step into the parent clubs first team. The standards of the game should be raised at every level as should costs - wages, overheads etc paid by the parent club. The sport needs a kick up the arse and some of the old cronies need booting out.

I think this is a ploy by these 12 clubs for greater leverage with UEFA. UEFA will give them a better deal and these breakaway clubs will back down. I hope I’m right as this ESL is an abomination that could destroy football.
If what you say is real, what is stopping them from trying to bring it back at a later date. Anything can happen when American venture capitalists smell money.

And now we are under their control.
It is interesting that Woodward is still apparently pushing FFP. He was one of key members of the dirty-tricks team that tried to destroy City. The irony of all this is that if UEFA had not pursued a witchunt against us based on fabricated and hacked emails we could have been one of their strongest allies. It was Ceferin who came to the Etihad at Christmas and begged City to do a deal and take the ban. He was in the pocket of the Cartel. Now he is bleating that they have shafted him. Why is he surprised that Agnelli has been lying. Ceferin knew all about Agnelli's background when he was cosying up to him. Just as he knows all about Al Khelaifi now.

I feel that strongly about this.

That i would be happy for our owners to sell up and fuck off, go and find another Club. I am really upset, we have become what we so despise a Rag clone Club,

And before anyone says don't be ridiculous, how would we ever survive.

We have been around for 125 years. Sure we have been up and down more than a hookers knickers' will give you that.

But all through that time we have had a very solid fan base. A local. Working class club, with a feeling of togetherness as fans, a feeling of us against the World. All together for one love City.

Make no mistake our owners singled us out for buying because of that solid support base. We have always been a top 6 Club.

Dont get me wrong i was happy we were bought. A sleeping Giant was awakened. But let us not forget our owners got as much out of this relationship as us, they got all the publicity they were after. We got the success we badly desired, and deserved.

I didn't like looking around the ground seeing tourists with Cameras that came with that success ,with no affinity to City, but accepted it was a price we had to pay. it grated on me that friends i religiously went to the game with were priced out of watching a team they loved though.

This to me right now though is going way too far, our owners are taking the Piss. Manchester City is our football Club, they had no fucking right to use our Club like this without consulting fans groups first. They are nothing more than short term custodians of our great football Club. You don't get to do what ever the fuck you want with it. Shitting all over our working class heritage, then using quotes from the Glaziers on the City Website...i mean really wtf is that about ? Sure market the brand, with your own. No one has a problem with that.

To make such a fundamentally important decision without consulting fans is beyond words. I am not surprised fans from all 6 Clubs are apoplectic with rage.
If this really does materialise mate, i'm off, for good. If we really are shafting all the other clubs and shitting on the fabric of the English and other domestic football, i'll no longer be a City fan.

The whole of European football is rotten to the core. The champions league and now the super league are all but the same. Fuck uefa and fuck the cartel for putting city in this impossible situation. All we wanted was fair officiating. If the whole thing imploded tomorrow, I won’t lose any sleep.

Not dead to me.
They're only changing European football, why the tears ?
There is absolutely no correct way to respond to this news so I won't say anyone is right or wrong. My reasoning is that my club no longer cares about me as a fan so that feeling will be reciprocated. The whole concept of it is insidious imo also.

That me mate whatever happens now I'm gone.
