I think City should take the moral high ground - something our sheik owners will be keen to do - and stay where we are. Meanwhile make it painful for the new league to succeed. The players need to feel that the right thing to do is not follow the money in this case - that new format would get pretty boring after a year or two. 3 clubs in London, 3 clubs in North West. What about the rest of the country?

There is a lot of angst in this thread but most of it is based on two perceptions. Today it's the CL that will suffer but tomorrow it's the PL. And point 2, we are getting into bed with our enemies. We don't know what tomorrow holds but if the problem is tomorrow why react today if its only based on supposition? Point 2, we have worked hard in the past 13 years to get where we are, to reject a new European cup competition because we don't like our bedfellows would be childish and detrimental to the club's future.

It's a club most of us don't recognise anymore.

The poker analogy doesn't work as well for me just because two groups have gone all in -- we don't actually know what their cards are yet, nor do you know what our cards are. The flop was a bad card for everyone -- widespread outrage from all corners of the globe. We haven't seen the turn nor the river and don't know who's won yet.

I do agree that we've kept our poker face better, and that the motivations are pretty clear for those groups who are all in. What I don't know is OUR motivation. All I know is we are in the game. While I agree that those calling our owners cunts or saying trust is forever broken are overreacting with limited information, with that same information I absolutely feel shame -- shame because we are playing this game in the first place (even if we had to). I'm just hoping we aren't the sucker at the table.

We have blown a massive PR opportunity in my opinion, if we had not gone in, the world of Football would have thanked us, as it is unless we backtrack quickly we are done, our reputation badly damaged and our owners reputation fatally damaged in term of his ownership.

After a nights reflection on the recent events, I am still of the opinion this is a terrible development for City, and Football in general.

I sincerely hope City pull out of this shocking power/money grab and work to make the dysfunctional UEFA better.

Buying a Football club is not just about money. There is an essence, or spirit, of solidarity and mutual understanding between the fans - we love the same thing, but in different ways. Our owners (I don't like the word 'owner', they are not that and never will be, they are Guardians) must understand their responsibility to keep that spirit alive. It is what the game was built on.

The governing bodies needed a wake up call to jolt them back into doing what is best for Football, not what is best for a chosen few clubs who have delusions of grandeur.

This is the moment.... we, and Football, can come out of this either bums or kings. Do the right thing City!

To continue the poker analogy, we're considering our cards against one side who have a strong hand but are absolutely desperate to win the pot. Indeed, they're in such shit they need to win it and that makes for poor judgement. They've played their hand and gone all in.

On the other hand, you have another set of hustlers who have been high rollers but now look set to be excluded from the game if they don't win. They've got a decent hand too and have gone all in.

Maybe it's just me, but I think I could argue there'd be even better PR if we said, "We've listened to the fans, and we realized based on their input that we've made a catastrophic decision. While the sustainable income is tempting, and we have to look out for the financial interests of the club and its investor/owners, we cannot do so to the exclusion of our greatest asset -- our fans. We do not have a club without them. In addition, our employees have raised their voices and offered up their own concerns about the future of the club in a Super League structure. We must always balance the needs and wants of all our constituents: fans, employees and investors. In this case, we failed to gauge the balance correctly, for which we take full responsibility. Therefore we rescind our acceptance of Super League admission. Let us now all move forward together to make Manchester City the most successful sporting entity on the globe."

It's worse than that.

It isn't UEFA who repeatedly tried to screw us, it's the G14 - in essence the very clubs we are seemingly buddying up with - that pressured UEFA into trying to screw us. Platini was very clear years ago that FFP was brought in as a direct result of pressure from the G14 and their threats to break away into a super league, were UEFA not to comply.

The likes of Rummenigge (fucked if I'm looking the spelling up) and Gill have had it in for us from the start and I don't see that changing any time ever, let alone soon.

They provide a meaningful fan representation on the board and a percentage ownership of the club for the fanbase (like Germany).

A reduction in ticket pricing across the board.

Some form of gesture to the rest of the football league clubs to acknowledge that they are every bit as important to the English game as we / the rest of the twats involved in this shit house project.
