The money men just don’t get it. They only see our rivalries, the desperation to be better than other teams. They assumed we’d understand anything that made that more likely, protected our position. They probably still can’t get their heads around the fact we’re a community as well. It has to be fair.

UEFA have something in the new legislation where in 2024, the 2 clubs with the highest co-efficient points qualify no matter where they finish in their domestic league. I think another fan revolt is required.
Yes I like this.
Now is the time to fuck off all this coefficient nonsense once and for all.
How some “historical” clubs can be rewarded for mismanagement via a permanent seat at the top table is beyond.
Now is the time to reset the clock and build on this strength of the fan.

It's over. We need to use the momentum to right the other wrongs in the game before the dust settles, & things invariably return to a pre-ESL norm.

Debt is the major issue. Debt is driven by the need for success. The need for success drives up debt. High transfer fees & wages are the by products of success, which drives up debt to maintain that success. It's cyclical like a runaway greenhouse effect & won't stop unless there is a root & branch review of football finances, with paying fans at the heart of it.

I can't see KDB accepting a 50% pay cut for the good of the game, but if the ESL has proved anything, it's that football needs to press the reset button to stop this runaway financial madness.

You'd hope, although it's not likely to happen, that this move has castrated the big clubs enough for UEFA and the Champions League to start telling them to fuck off with their threats and bullying tactics and actually open the competition back out to clubs across Europe.

I mean we take the piss out of Scottish football, but is it really fair that the club that won the title in the 14th best league in Europe has to go through 3 qualifying rounds to get into a tournament with 32 spaces, while the 4th placed team in England or the 2nd best team in Russia go straight through to the tournament? And people might say that they're shit, but why is that? Is it because they've had extra obstacles put in front of them because they just want the big teams in every year? I still remember not too long ago when Celtic would give the big boys a run for their money at times. And I'm using Celtic, but it could just as easily be Dinamo Zagreb, Red Star Belgrade, Olympiakos, or any other number of teams that were actually champions. And even if they get knocked out in the first round, how is that any different to the rags or automatic qualifiers Rennes and Marseille who went out with 1 and 3 points respectively?

Hell, it was only because of covid fucking up the schedules that Ajax didn't have to qualify. Fucking Ajax! Champions of the Dutch league and semi-finalists two years ago, and they would have had to go through the qualifying rounds. But if West Ham scrape into the top four this season, they'll go straight to the group stages because they're from England despite never having either won the league or competed in the Champions League.

I'm all in favour of making it harder to qualify from the big five leagues (maximum 2 automatic qualifiers and the rest go through qualifying rounds) and have more automatic qualifiers from smaller leagues. But I bet it won't happen because UEFA are more interested in lining their pockets than principles, and big teams from big leagues do that unfortunately.
I used to work for a regulatory body. I always found it odd that UEFA had the very organisations they were supposed to be regulating placed in key decision-making positions. Hopefully they can now go some way towards cleaning house and reasserting some authority

Maybe football fans around the globe has finally seen how dangerous and poisonous the "we deserve to be on top because we were on tv in the 90's" really is.

If this SL thing never happened most people on the internet would like this idea because "teams like Milan and Arsenal are proper CL-sides"

Now they might see that we cannot give anyone a place at the table based on their name, because they will use their place to keep everyone else out. You know, the very thing we have tried to tell them for 13 years

Having thought on this - If it is true that City used this as a bit of a fly trap for the irritants who have been pestering the club for years - as some very knowledgeable posters on here have been advising for months was in the works with no details known - then it makes more sense of what we are seeing now. Restrained silence from City.

If we had a slow burn plan in operation but likely the facts of how and why could never be made public - and this seems to have worked - then - what do you do?

Draw attention to that possibility that most on here are not even accepting and so is not going to occur easily to the media? Especially as it is going to make things worse not better if true.

No you quite likely be delighted it worked and want it not seriously considered by anyone and so would allow Chelsea to be perceived as the one who jumped first and 'saved football' as at least that removes anyone from thinking - IF City were doing this on purpose then surely they would have minimised the damage by being sure to be seen as the first to leave.

They appear not terribly fussed over that. Because it was part of the strategy to be seen to be reluctant but not project wreckers.

My guess is you would instead not just issue some bland statement but have an amazing gesture to BOTH fans and the local community to show 'we are a true club of the people' who care with deeds not words.

Guess we will see what happens.

I saw De Bruyne's tweet last night and at first glance it was ok

Then I thought I wonder if he knew anything when he signed his new contract the other week, I believe he would not have.

Then I ask do these players ever question where the money comes from for the massive wages they are paid.

The wages they receive are part of the problem football finds itself in. City have to pay these wages it seems at this moment in time to keep the best players

Although the competition part of this 'project' and the continued presence of the founders was shit the money mentioned cannot be ignored in terms of what clubs perhaps need.

Will the players now change how they negotiate, of course not.

Only one group going to carry on paying for this in the main, the fans
It is not down to the players and they dont need to feel bad about it , they are offered a contract from a well run club the club got greedy , saw money signs and forgot the meaning of football

Hope soriano falls on his sword

And to think.. if it wasn't for a horse called "Rock of Gibralter" then none of this would have happened.
Rather, if it wasn’t for the fact an already extremely wealthy ‘socialist man of the people’ was so blindly and nakedly greedy for more, then he wouldn’t have pissed off his paymasters by demanding an undeserved share in said horse’s future jizz emissions

Agree we should threaten UEFA with setting up a SL ;)
Realistically the 12 teams will be accommodated, although with less power. Hopefully City can be represented on UEFA.

I just wonder whether any of these debit ridden clubs may ask to join CFG for some advice and direction.

Wow, soriano goes for carrying out something UAE would give the nod for.
Barca boys start an exodus Pep goes with him.

You're welcome. And thank you for not accepting the plan. You did us all a turn. Your club today is actually stronger in the eyes of supporters everywhere who know who any club is.
I’m sure we’re flattered, but I doubt our stock has gone up with other supporters.

We’ll start tonight and see what the reaction is at Villa.
