Paris Saint-Germain (A) - CL SF | Post-Match Thread

Huh? I'm a Sterling fan but I think his pace is a myth, or at least he never seems to use it... Foden's pace and especially his acceleration is absolutely incredible now and he knows exactly how to use it

Sterling is very fast but he beats people without the ball more often than with it and that makes people not really notice it as much.

When Foden or Sané pick up the ball and run with it at pace everyone gets excited, when Sterling drops the ball off and gasses a couple of defenders to be free for a return pass or be wide open in the box it's often off camera, and people tend to focus on the ball.

His pace helps him to drop defenders and get into the free spaces he picks up in the box to get all his chances.

Was taking my kid to bed last night which normally takes 20 mins but last night took an hour so missed the first half. When I switched on BT Sport they were saying that we were lucky to be still in the game. I feared the worst but that second half performance was a masterpiece. Lets hope the boys can repeat that next week.

I still think we took the right approach in the first half, European knockouts are always a case of who blinks first, We basically seen what they had to offer for 45 minutes and I thought we contained them incredibly well.
Second half speaks for itself it was an incredible display.
All those games you've named, Last night is certainly up there with them.

Think people are tempted to explain away a relatively average first half for our standards. Read what Pep said after the game, what he said to the players at half-time: "don't be shy...try to play our game".

Our side played more or less to its maximum in the 2nd half but we didn't create many opportunities through open play. It was the same against Spurs in the League Cup FInal. The same against Chelsea in the semi-final. This is a trait of City this season. In previous seasons we scored around 100 league goals a season. We're down significantly on that his season. I'd be happier still if this City win didn't owe a little bit to the footballing Gods.
What a clown you are, first your let Manchester come together to celebrate post now this shite, you are fuckin clueless!

RIGHT, absolutely fantastic result last night - i couldn’t be more proud of our boys.
But i’m a bit nervous with all the “were going Istanbul” comments.....remember blues, PSG scored 4 goals in Barcelona and 3 goals in Munich.
In the last few weeks, we have been beaten by Chelsea and at home by Leeds.
All we need is another brain fart on Tuesday and its all over.
I’m confident but let’s not get all “raggish”
Come on City

I thought what Pep said after the game was telling. He said that PSG will have learnt about us now with the implication being we need to be on our toes for the second leg as they'll pose different problems that we'll need to deal with. But he implied that the players learnt a lot about themselves and that they need to draw on this for the return leg.

Interesting psychological observations and I think Pep regards the latter as crucial. This could be the tipping point for this team (it certainly feels like it).
Good points. It may seem a bit daft to say that our highly experienced players still have a lot to learn about themselves, but we are outclassing the vast majority of teams we play against. Much harder to learn lessons from weaker opposition.

How many really challenging top teams do we play in a season? 2 or 3 on the league, a couple in Europe??

It’s becoming reminiscent of Pep’s first year when every clueless pundit would chime in about how we can’t play out from the keeper in the PL blah blah. Trust in Pep...
Several of them commented before the season started that Peps way could not possibly succeed in Englsh football. Yeah, right.

Would have been nice to have gotten the third goal to really push our advantage but I'm being greedy. If you'd offered me a 2-1 win this time yesterday I would have snatched your hand off. Just need the lads to do a professional job next week as we know they are capable of and we can continue dreaming.

The red card means that rat herrera will probably start next week. Absolutely hate him. Typical rag player. Won a couple of soft freekicks at the end of the game yesterday and expect him to try that all game next week
Agree
Once a rag always a c@@t (Tevez the obvious exception in recent times...)

I had to tell my eldest lad to shut up as he wouldn't stop singing the Istanbul song !.....he was pissed though.

Very good observation.
Sterling is quick without the ball but seems to be burdened by indecision (especially atm) with it.
Foden is the opposite. His agility and speed of thought with the ball is exceptional.

I currently believe sterling produced his best football when he was getting all the media hate and racist attacks. It galvanised him, concentrated his determination.

Think maybe Danilo will come in ahead of Herrera ? If it’s not going their way he’ll bring Herrera on to chuck himself on the floor every 2 seconds like he did last night

I think last night’s performance is a bit of a landmark for us.
It feels as if finally we are being recognised for the brilliance of this team.
The media are positively gushing in their praise for the performance as much as the result.
Games like that put us right up with Barcelona and Real Madrid in stature.
Any striker worth his salt will have taken notice and we must be one of the very top clubs in terms of desirability for them. Recruitment of a top striker is made easier by nights like that.
It’s what the project has been all about.
Sheikh Mansour must be a happy guy this morning.

Two things for me from last night,

Ederson had more touches and completed passes than MmBarm and Zinchenko - great player - and he only cost us 1.7 million !!!!!!
