Chelsea (H) | Post-Match Thread

All those digging Aguero out should be ashamed. Yea his penalty was a dick move at the wrong time, but this lad has done more than most in helping us win trophies over the last 10 years. The manager, who I love got it wrong today. His team selection set the tone. He is the best manager in the world, but he makes mistakes like the rest of us.

In regards to their 1st I don't think there was much more Rodri could do.

There was no out ball for him to play as he was alone in midfield for the vast majority of the match.

Normally he has Ilkay, Phil, Kev or Berny just in front of him creating space in midfield or Dias and Stones narrow behind giving him options.

Today he had none of them options as the four in front weren't dropping deep enough to give him the forward option and those behind were playing as part of wide 3 which Chelsea were matching with their 3 up top, so he was alone facing 3 players virtually all game.

Maybe I'm wrong but that's how it looked to me and I can't lay the blame fully at his feet for the goal.

I agree. It’s hard to tell what’s going on when watching on t.v.
I think he was looking for Sterling to move wide for the out ball and held onto the ball for a touch too long.

That is his first and more than likely his last major error of judgement. Cut him some slack eh?
Players can't have it all their way all the time. When they are great they deserve the accolades, but it's a 2 way street. When they make poor decisions they should expect the negativity that comes with it. No matter how good a player you are, there will be times in your career when you fuck up. And they should shoulder the negatives along with the positives.

Done by many and often works a treat. Not sure what your point is. It's a perfectly valid way of taking a penalty for those who pay attention
You have to follow through a bit to get some momentum on the ball
This one would have barely got over the line

I'm still pretty confident we'll win the league but my God what a bloody awful day this has been.

I hate losing but more than that I hate losing needlessly and when we only have ourselves to became.

And to those who say it means nothing in terms of our prospects for the CL final, of course it does. It's given our opponents a right good moral boost. Two games played in the last couple of weeks and two defeats. They will be thinking we can do these. And we'll be thinking fucking hell we:re up against it

And it was all so fucking unnecessary. Had we played even half of our 1st team, we'd have the league wrapped up already, be on cloud 9 and have them shitting themselves about the final. We've been utter fools.

We lose the final I'll be asking serious questions on Pep's future. Reason being is if we lose it, then it will be his fault through tinkering and fucking about. Our best 11 should be beating this Chelsea squad every day of the weak, if it doesn't, it's on Pep.
Have you seen his line up for final already?

The kind of abuse dished today in post match threat makes it seems like we have lost the title, yes we lost the game, everyone is gutted and wanted to win it but that was way over the top.

We would be league champions in few days, that would make 2 trophies with a shot at third one, we got here because of the manager and the squad we have. Be thankful for where we are, we could be united who are searching for the league title for past 8 seasons.

For the Cl final, a 4-5-1 would be an ideal setup on today's evidence imo, shore up the midfield, try to outnumber them and deprive them for possession and control. Easier said than done but i reckon that should do it

Ederson
Walker
Dias
Stones
Zinchenko
Dino
Gundogan
Silva
Mahrez
Foden
Debruyne

Chelsea didn't have a near full team playing they rested their 4 best players
With the exception of Gilmour those players are rotated a lot so not necessarily their 4 best players & they’ve now possibly lost one to injury

I think one or two have forgot we still need 3 points to win the League.

And before anyone says it.

I am not comfortable with automatically assuming the Rags wont win all their remaining games for us to secure the Title.

We need to assume they will win the lot,and we need 3 points from our next game.
I'll be extremely surprised if the rags get 3 wins in 5 days especially with Leicester and Liverpool being 2 of those games and both still needing results for their top 4 hopes. I don't think we'll need the 3 points it'll be done by the time we play Newcastle on Friday.

And he has held his hand up and is probably not going to dwell on it. It was a totally shit pen but going back into the match thread there were a few videos posted on where it was successful (including one in penalty-shootout)
