So with the issues in Bolton does anyone think we could be regionally locked next week and we may not be able to go the Everton game?

For those who do not read the full hospital data above.

Today we went below 1000 people in hospital in the UK for the first time in 8 months.

It was nearly 40,000 in January.

No doubt on the 10 O'clock news.

Or not.

it has been mentioned before, but if the news focuses on just the good news then people relax and disregard the rules

45% of what though? Use the actual number rather than a high percentage which is bound to cause alarm. If you say 5 people under 60 have died today, it tells the true story.

Of course I was aware of that as I posted the actual numbers earlier but the point WAS to cause alarm in people in that age group who are choosing not to have the vaccine.

Not to say - oh but its not really as bad as it looks so no need to bother.

Targeted messaging is what it says targeted at making people change behaviour even if it involves stating truths that scare by not explaining full context.

Of course, the alternative is saying do not have the vaccine but then you cannot go back to normal until the pandemic is officially declared over. No going to City No holidays without 10 days isolation.

Or you could get the vaccine.

In my opinion if we need to get the country back to normal we so have to stop these infective variants from spreading and if that means scaring a few people to have the vaccine rather than believing some conspiracy nut on Twitter then it is a fair exchange.

Fair enough I misunderstood your post so my fault! I’ve noticed the number of people not getting their first jab is low, is that because it is only open to such small numbers and they can’t get in?

I’m 40 and was one of the first on my friends to get it, even though some of them are up to 42. There just wasn’t any options when they tried to book other than to drive 30 miles or so.

I'll put this here as it's more widely read than the vaccine thread.

I've just updated the MyGP app as I've read that from Monday it will show your vaccination status once you have had both shots. There is a new section at the top of the first page called MyGP TICKet that does exactly that. I had my second shot on the 3rd and it won't show mine yet though. This might be because it takes 10 days before you are classed as 'fully baked' or maybe it will be from Monday, the official start date.

This will definitely be useful for foreign holidays soon and maybe for things like large events once everyone has been offered a vaccine.

It is also on the NHS app too. Would have thought that would be the go to app for the authorities.

looking at officially recorded data only, in England only;

there are 1,288,186 covid cases < 30 yrs.
there are 231 covid deaths < 30 yrs

this means the IFR on known cases is ~0.018 %

known cases is surely nowhere near the real cases, especially in the younger population. I would bet it's double at the very least.

a 'positive' that predominantly younger folks are getting it is that it translates into far less deaths further down the line, with zero vaccination.

(upping that to < 40 yrs = 0.04%. Again only recorded cases, which will be a large under estimate.)
Using even that admittedly rough and ready IFR of 0.02 % you'd need more than half a million cases in the younger population to produce a 100 deaths a day. Half a million a day. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Good to see vaccination, particularly first doses, going up sharply again today.

Vaccination info is tucked away in that app as it was on MyGP app until this update. Now it is the first thing on MyGP.

Edit: will look like this

2nd Edit: your do not get fully vaccinated status and a green tick until 12 days after your second shot.

Ah right. Looks good. Better than the NHS app.

The page on the NHS app that shows vaccination status is less than ideal as it is also possible to see other personal info.

I haven't checked his data but look at the Y axis label, and the dates on the bottom.

The indications are that the vaccines remain very effective against it so it will get dealt with.

In better news the epidemic in India has been falling significantly for a week now.
