This...Thought Jesus was the best player on the pitch last night. He was involved all game, got around players with some great skill, looked like he enjoyed his role as a wide player (again!), covered loads of ground, worked hard defensively.

I respectfully disagree - he's nowhere near Mahrez's ability on the wing.Not clinical enough to play central but always looks very good out wide.

The previous system I'd have some doubts because we really utilized Sterling and Sane's speed behind, but now we play more methodically with Foden and Mahrez with the intention of the wingers keeping the ball and allowed to come inside more often, a much better style for him.

I know it's cliché, but I have to assume that his off the ball stuff as a forward is incredibly important to Pep. His pressing is spoken for, but I'd wager his movement in general is valuable too.
He's been used more as a winger this season than previously, but I'd wager that his movement is still too important. I personally think he's a lot like Bernardo (the midfield one, not the false 9 one), in that he does a lot of unsung work. But then I think... he can do that on the wings too right? Since his dribbling is more natural than his finishing, the wings seems more promising.
On top of that, perhaps when we had Sane-Sterling as the wingers and played in that "style", he was better as our striker, I think the movements we made in that set-up perhaps suited him more in terms of goal scoring.
But in this new set-up, the strikers role is a bit different, and requires more varied movement that perhaps Torres brings. Not entirely sure on this point, just speculating.

This setup doesn't suit him goalscoring, I'd agree. But then have any of our players really got a good record when they've been played up front? Most of the goals have come from the players in midfield or on the wing. Except Torres weirdly.
He does have the skills to play on the wing, and he's not being sold. So dependant on who we sign we might see some changes to his position. Although I think if he were to be a winger under Pep it'd have happened already.
I'm not convinced of Torres as a striker. His finishing is really good, but so is Foden's. His positioning is really good, but so is Sterling's. He can still be a great scorer for us but I think his strengths are out wide.
Is this even true of Sterling in terms of pressing anymore? I used to see him working so much harder defensively even when he was in top form I feel like. You would think it would be the opposite to try to turn his defense into offense.Both Sterling and Jesus are still very useful players to have around.
