I'm going to quietly note that I have a big question mark in my mind over the long term prospects of outstanding young strikers noted for their feats of strength. Rooney. Adriano. And many, many others falling far short of that. They have an explosiveness in them at that age that can turn into a leaden quality all to quickly.

Defenders and coaches don't know how to deal with new strikers at first. And moreover, goalscoring is a confidence game. Anyone can look a genius in the middle of their breakout season. Rooney never topped his first tournament, did he. Bumping older guys around for fun, and then, slow death as he turned out to be a shite goalscorer. Michael Owen done at 26. And those two are miles ahead of many other examples. Alan Smith. Andy Carroll. Ronaldo. Injuries, loss of form, loss of freshness. Not being the suprise package, not being the cherry on the cake, not being feared, different team, different situation.

Seriously. Something in my mind is screaming at me. Strikers with the best pedigree look a bit different, and often take time to emerge.

He's worth 100m, possibly. No more. No way. Not at this stage.

Aguero was Atletico’s most important player at 19

Yeah, I know the Adriano story. I remember pundits who thought he was a joke when he broke into the Brazilian team. I always liked him.

You're right to call me out, as he's actually not that relevant to what I'm saying, but the story is another of a hundred reasons people should be cautious about U21 players who burst onto the scene in devestating style. At whatever level.

Remove Adriano from my post, and insert Jonah Lomu.
I'm not sure Lomu was a good choice either bud, he was diagnosed with kidney disease at just 20 years old. That in effect finished his career and killed him another 20 years down the line. Now he was awesome.

One of the most fascinating tales in football. I have at least three colleagues who have written extensively about him, his career and his personal life. It’s almost Shakespearean. Can’t be a point of comparison to almost anyone. Even Ronaldinho pales by comparison in terms of fascination

Adriano was phenomenal. Shame he wasn't able to harness all that ability.

I'd be gutted if Liverpool stump up the £150m. it feels like when they have a problem position they just spend whatever it takes on a player to plug the gap. VVD. Alison.
They funded VVD by Coutinho sale.

and he is not going to go to Europa League club anyway so its moot point

Haha Liverpool even admitted in there accounts of fans don’t come back they will have a massive big hole to fill! If the scousers get top four they might spend 50m net max..

It changes nothing
Of course it does. Dortmund will no longer be desperate to sell if they get CL which looks likely.

Dortmund allowed Lewa to leave on a free, refused to take the money before it. Dortmund can make bullish moves when they have no financial pressure, they're no pushover. So the clause won't pressurise them. Dortmund might feel theyd rather lose him for the clause than sell for low amount (less than 100m)

So, just twice then?
in recent years they've had 2 obvious problems and they spent big money to solve them. they demonstrated that they will spend big if they think they need to. and to be fair they've never been shrinking violets in the transfer market.

in case you didn't pick up on it. i hate that club so much. from klopps "we'd never spend the sort of money city do" rhetoric of a few years ago through to the way their fans repeatedly demonstrate their lack of class outside of the ground to the hypocrisy of their funding in the 70s and the fines/corruption of their current owners and sponsors.

hmm a late night rant. i'd better not click "post repl..

Can’t believe there are people still on this thread thinking we will sign him this summer despite the compelling arguments we wont

we have just hit on a winning style of play that utilises playing without a striker. We are one game from a treble and were two games from the quad. Why change it ?

he’s available for half the price in 12 months. No serious business spends north of 60m for the privelage of a 1 season loan. If he wants to come now, he’ll come in next year.

they are less inclined to sell now they have secured CL football next year

i have doubts we can afford him this year

i think we will sign grealish and a left back , perhaps a holding mid if fern leaves
