The active posters in this forum below 40 (never mind 30) is probably a fairly low percentage, so most frequent posters would know who he was.

And then again plenty of people under 40 know who he was.

I'm 29 and know who he is. He is frequently referred to in television (panel shows like HIGNFY ) and popular culture, often by way of a satirical insult of people like politicians.

He isn't an obscure pop cultural reference, so it's more likely that people might know who he is than a 3rd rate punk or new romantics band that no-one without contemporary experience of them cares about.
