Brighton (A) | Post-Match Thread

This is not looking good preparation for the champs league. We’re all over the place. Not sure why Garcia is featuring. It’s a little bizarre. I understand we’re saving the players for the big games but we’re so out of sorts right now it’s going to be hard get into rhythm. Everton wont make it easy and it could be another uncomfortable night. Another poor performance from the team. Hope Mr whippy is ok.
City mad or just mad?

I’ve got no problem with Brighton’s players or fans tonight. They’ve beaten the champions, why would they not be full of it? Christ I’ve always enjoyed beating everyone but beating the best team in the league is a great feeling, especially when you’re a long way behind them.
As for the players, if the referee has made it clear that he’s going to totally favour you, why would you not take advantage?

Trying to think of a worse defensive display by Garcia tonight ever from a city player?

struggling.. might have to go as far back as kernaghan or Laurent charvet!!
Garcia tonight
Garcia at Newcastle
Garcia at Leicester

Take your pick!

We must have conceded about a 1/3rd of our total goals with him playing in those 3 games.

That's not the checkmate you think it is. He plays in the most dominant possession side in Europe, as long as he's decent enough on the ball and stays fit he's going to get a lot of minutes, especially when his only rival for the position is a 36 year old in the twilight of his career.

And, in a side that steam rolls so many teams, he's not going to get tested much defensively. But when he has, he's often like a traffic cone in a blue shirt.

He's poor in the challenge, his balance is poor, he has little to no athleticism or pace. Positionally he's poor and often doesn't recognise danger until it's too late. He's often out of his feet after an hour and can be seen plodding about while opposition players stride past him with the ball after a little one-two.

So yeah, he's good at shielding the ball and he's reliable enough in possession, unless he's rushed into a decision and pressured on the ball, in which case he'll make the occasional howler. But a Fernandinho replacement he is not.

And I appreciate you didn't mention Fernandinho, but I did. Those are the big boots he needs to fill, and he's clearly not up to it. He's a different player granted, but he's a flawed one and IMO that holding role has to be a key area of reinforcement for us.

You can't rely on him in big games when the margins are tight. And that's not to scapegoat him, it's just blatantly evident on the basis of what we've seen over the course of his time at City.

Decent enough squad option but not a long term answer as far as I'm concerned.
I wasn't looking for a checkmate. I think he's quality, I think he's shown his importance throughout the season and I think without him we wouldn't be where we are.

You disagree, that's fine.

And not for the first time it’s cost us. Think back 2 weeks

Pretty sure it should have cost us against Dortmund in one of the legs and also remember him doing it in a CL game earlier on in the season.

Just digest this for a second, Garcia will be walking away with three Premier League title medals, four League Cups and one FA Cup.

If he also collects a Champions League medal, it will be the biggest miscarriage of footballing justice since Maradona hand of God.

No wonder Kane is pissed at not winning owt.

Must be a clarkie , out of sorts FFS away wins in the toughest league in Europe arguably , costing to another title , another domestic cup , semi final of the other one , likely Chumps League winners if the bookies are on song.

This game was decided by poor referring we would have coasted to another victory if we had a fair minded ref.

I hate to think how we would be if we were Brighton or Manure or Chelsea it would out right mutiny.

And I thought I was pessimistic.
