Brighton (A) | Post-Match Thread

I think the penalty is the howler, but I'm really unsure why Jesus nor anyone else really appealed. Between this and the Foden one it's two absolute stonewall penalties that somehow VAR has completely failed to give *and* that our players have been too honest to really appeal for.
The Jesus pen is so nailed on that when it went to VAR I wasn’t thinking whether it was gonna be awarded I was thinking who will take it and will we score

I was speechless when they said check over no penalty

Proof that fans influence the referees.

Good point that

Not really. Atwell is a FIFA referee, which means he is one of our most experienced officials. He wasn't influenced by the crowd. There might have been other influences though.

What's his excuse for not giving the foul on Jesus, directly leading to the Fernandinho caution? What's his excuse for not looking at the monitor for our stone wall penalty shout at the end? Nothing to do with crowd influence.

It’s more likely to be a factor that baking up some corruption story.

I was surprised Jesus didn’t appeal, nor anyone else at the time, so ref did nothing, but when it went to VAR I thought it would be a pen, he rolled his foot over the ball into Jesus ‘s leg( not sure if that constitutes getting the ball) and took him out. Not sure of rules on that one but feel the players should have made more of it to make ref make a judgement

Sometimes resistance is futile. Especially were that cnut Attwell is concerned, he hates City for sure!!

Pep has left me bewildered yet again - why the hell is he giving Garcia game time? Laporte must be on his way out the way he keeps getting ignored.
Just watched the short highlights and I don't think it was a red and their last goal looked offside. As for Rodri's assist - speechless!!

Playing 90 minutes (including injury time) with ten men eventually wore us down , a stupid mistake by Rodri gave Brighton all the encourgement needed , at seventy minutes our lads were running in treacle after a long hard season and the inevtiable happened. When you include a completely inept referee and VAR clown then the outcome was always going to be a Brighton win at 12/1 , in fact when we went 2-0 up the odds were at 33/1 for a Brighton win , someone has made a killing , maybe Attwell & Moss have a couple of accounts in the Cayman Islands.

Its concerning that we've only one game left to get some form back. Let's hope it's enough time and that we're doing enough in training to be on top of our game. We may never get this chance again.

I really want to know where all this Rodri hate is coming from? I can't see it myself. I felt he was unsupported tonight from the normal pressing/availability for passing style that we do (apologies, I cannot remember the name for the style of football). But he got let down, time and time again; and chose the option to run it in the other half by himself where again noone was available. I don't believe anyone deserves to be singled out tonight because they were all substandard and shite!

Foden was not substandard let alone shite and others did OK in the circumstances ie. a player short for well over 80 minutes and corrupt refereeing.

Foden was not substandard. But Walker makes the mistake that Cancelo did tonight every other game, and normally Stones is there to cover which means it is either a yellow or no booking at all. That cover wasn't there tonight?

Garcia is still a raw, inexperienced player who does not look ready for top-level football, in my opinion.
He has none of the required attributes of a defender : strength, pace, height or presence to give other defenders confidence in the back unit.
He would struggle to get in any other top-half Premier League team, but Pep has given him many opportunities.
I can't think of anything positive he contributed tonight ?
But, Pep did not see Brighton continually exploiting his weakness and continued with Mahrez to protect him.
This was a huge factor why City lost tonight.
Brighton might have deserved the win, but Pep should have subbed either Garcia or Mahrez when they scored their first goal.
From then on, we struggled to stop them controlling the game...

It's still a foul. It was a reckless challenge that put another player in danger of injury. It should have been punished with a penalty and a card for Lallana. Remember the sending off the other week, where the player kicked an opponent after clearing the ball, but in the same action? Well this was a more clear cut foul, as Lallana didn't make much contact with the ball, but did make significant contact with Jesus.

I don’t think it was a red. Welbeck clipped the back of Cancelo s leg causing him to tumble. It should have been a free kick to us

they should definitely have had a red for a reckless dangerous challenge

and the less said about the late pen the better. It’s one of the worst VAR decisions ever

get those 3 key decisions right and we stroll that game

anyway not arsed about the result, could be a blessing in the long run

just arsed about the

I haven't read every post on this thread but don't understand why so far no post I have read has mentioned what Welbeck does with his left arm. Take a look at the slow motion replays: he throws his left arm across Cancelo as part of a deliberate, and legitimate, attempt to get in front of our defender, and as a consequence the natural upward movement of Cancelo's left arm as he sprints back means that his arm makes contact with Welbeck's - but it is Welbeck that has made a deliberate unnatural arm movement in this situation, and as his arm comes down it locks with Cancelo's causing both players to fall. That is not even a foul by either player.
