Ridiculous goal. It’s like watching messi at times

I’ve said this before, but sounding without like a deluded, bias blue, Phil can become our own Messi. Messi kept improving and he wasn’t just the wonderkid who could dribble past a few players, he became the heartbeat of the team who could pretty much do anything with a football. I often watch Foden and think there’s an extra few levels he can kick on to, there’s more to him than we’ve seen so far. Tonight’s goal gave a glimpse of it. I’m not expecting Phil to be a better player than Messi, that would be a pretty mad statement to make, but a lot of Phils attributes remind me of him.

Pep could have another monster of a player in a season or two.

Goal of the season. Amazing to think that in our all conquering team of world class stars he’s the go to man now - like if it were injury time in the CL final and we need a goal, who else would you rather be on the ball in the final third than Phil.

Good performance in a team of underperformers. To think a 20 year old should have come off that pitch disappointed in his teammates for not being at his level!

That was a much more difficult finish than I'd realised all things considered.

I don't know...he only had to pick the ball up in his own half, beat a man, run the length of their half amd bang it in the bottom corner from a wide angle. I can think of at most one other player who could have done that!

In all seriousness the finish alone would have been quality like you say. Very tough to find the angle to beat the keeper and find the corner. He sort of poked at it in full knowledge of what he was doing. The preceeding play was sensational too of course.

Not to put too much weight on his shoulders but for me he looks like the most likely player to overtake David Silva as our best ever player.

Imagine winning the CL at 21 then going into the Euros as the first name on the team sheet!

If he could use his right a bit more he will be the best English player in a generation, there have been two occasions recently he’s gone through one was PSG and last night were if it had been his left he would’ve blasted it in but he hesitated and good tackles got the ball. The goal last night has been forgotten because we lost he took the ball from his own half sprinted taking out 4 Brighton players using strength and skill and slotted the ball from a tight angle, he’s brilliant and I hope and pray he scores the winner next Saturday then the world will know his name if they don’t already.

He has scored some amazing goals with his right, I think it's a confidence thing more than a technical one that made him force those chances onto his left.

I’ve noticed a change in Phil recently, he’s starting to believe how good he is. I think he’s spent the last two years just happy and bewildered to be in the squad.

Just this last week, the introduction of the earring, the cupping of the ear to the Brighton fans, the swagger he has on the pitch now demanding the ball and being more selfish. This is a Foden who is getting more confident and more dangerous!

I’ve felt the same for a while. Part of that has been down to Pep not wanting him to get complacent and get the “I’ve made it” feeling too early. So being ultra critical of his decision making, tempo control & how he can improve has been a very conscious move on Peps part. The result is a player who now knows when not to go for goal and to just keep possession & recycle the ball. But still has the ability to do what he did on Tuesday in his locker, and it’s this that has been somewhat subdued while he figured out the Pepball stuff. But he’s pretty much there now and the combination of both is starting to set him apart now as completely different gravy to his peers. He’ll grow into the swagger stuff nicely over the next twelve months as he starts to see how much superior he is to seasoned pros.

It’s not fully there yet though - even the ear cupping was just a timid two fingers rather than the full hand as if to show he wanted to shut them up but was a bit hesitant to do so :)

He’s ready to explode. Said a few days ago that we haven’t seen anything close to the best of him yet.

Said to someone recently he looks like he's at that bit in a superhero origin film where they start to realise their powers or sumat ha. Can almost tell he's thinking and realising 'god, i'm really, really good and they can't stop me'. The more he gets that confidence and strength, the more he'll do. This is only Foden v1.1 or sumat. Imagine what he'll be like at 24. Frightening.
