Harry Kane

Kane will likely be on around 250k per week, whereas Haaland will be in the region of 500k. Could be a factor in our thinking.

Kane is reportedly on above 200k at Spurs.

If that's what a massive tight arse like Daniel Levy is paying him, then the negotiations for his wage here will only start at 300k per week. If KDB is on 350k, Kane will at least earn that.

Kane will want parity with our top earners. I think this is just a power play to get an improved contract at spurs ala Rooney 2010
He wants to be paid what he's worth, so he's testing the market to force Levy's hand
I think city should wait a season for Haaland (or go this season...)

Kane has supposidely waved good buy to spurs fan in his last game. He is determined to leave. I strongly believe he is city bound whether we like it or not.

Looks like this story is gathering momentum.
Not sure where all this talk of dominating the league for the next x amount of years is coming from though, like other teams may well as not bother turning up.
We dominate to an extent anyway, in titles but we don't really blow teams away re points the league is won by.
Our 5 premier league titles have been won by goal difference, 2 points, 19 points (wank team 2nd), 1 point and probably 12 points ( wank team 2nd again)
That's with Sergio, so dont see that improving that much even with Kane, if any improvement overall.
Currently he gets alot of goals for Spurs, playing week in week out, he's their main goal scorer, their main man.
We have many goal scorers.
Then who knows if he really fits in with the way we play, how he'll cope playing against parked buses every week, packed defences?
Will he settle moving from Spurs where he's been for years and moving north?
He certainly won't get the same treatment from referees if he joins City, the same protection, getting hacked down every week and not even getting a freekick, won't do his ankles much good either.
Those snide tackles he likes doing now that he gets away with will probably see him off.
Then he'll supposedly be rested much more, to protect him from more injuries.
So don't see him scoring loads more goals than he currently does.
He'll score plenty, just not sure he'll be as dominant as some are making out or change us that much from what we already are, this season excluded for obvious reasons.

I have been saying this for awhile. People are underestimating the possibilities of departures. But we will need to replace them. We can’t have, for instance, only three ready CBs.
Exactly. We tried playing with a false five recently and it ended badly.

I like your thinking, Kane would be an underwhelming addition to City imo, let's hope we are planning to get Haaland.
On the other hand, maybe if we get Kane then let Delap learn a few tricks from him, like someone else just mentioned in this thread... I am ok with whatever the guys upstairs decide tbh

Underwhelming!!! Kane would lead us to more titles and possibly CL success. Get him in now. And who knows, maybe Delap will turn out to be the real thing

If he's desperate to come and win trophies, he may not demand parity with KDB. I agree it will probably be around 300k though.

Rooney was part of a good, successful team and had no real motivation to leave. That much was obvious at the time too. Kane hasn’t won a trophy in his career aged 27, I doubt he wants that on his record and will get paid handsomely if he gets a move.

Just read the last few pages and agree with what many have alluded to regarding the factor of wages

Haaland, yes he is a talent but repirtedly asking fir £500k a week!! Come on do us a favour. He is a talent but in no way justifies that wage at such an early age.

It would seem that Kane is now the likely option and with probably more realistic wage demands that can be agreed

And as already mentioned, Delap as an understudy is a no brainer

This is how Begiristain and Soriano operated at Barca.

Sign top star at 27-29 years old for immediate success to great impact.

They signed Henry and then Villa. Both resulted in Champions League wins.

This is great strategy if the age profile of the squad is good, which in our case is.

That is true. The two of them combined cost less than half of what Kane would.

I have come round to believing there is more in this. Still can't see us bringing that price gap. Not that we can't, bug that we won't. People constantly claim no way would the club pay big money for Haaland. But we take it for granted they would pay that same money for a player 8 years older. I struggle with that.
Lets see how it plays out, happy either way.

I’m not sure our potential decision to pursue Kane is based on a simple Player v Player ability comparison. Haaland would be top choice all things being equal.

It's not about the minutes per se, they know they're not first choice. Like Ake knows he's 4th choice, Sterling knows Foden is ahead of him, Jesus knows Pep prefers a false 9 in KDB. Minutes and feeling important are two different things.

It wouldn't surprise me if we have more changes than people realise. Perfectly conceivable that Laporte fancies being first choice at Real Madrid for instance.

Zinchenko knew he'd never be first choice too. All those players (apart from ake who is new and has been unavailable) Were first choice for large chunks, not that long ago. And they can be again, will be again, and on top of that get paid well and win things. Any top club they move to, there would be times they are not first choice.

You are right, some may push for a move, and neither pep nor the club will stand in their way. But not a given they are all dissatisfied enough to rush to.
