I'm on the fence as to whether UEFA have the balls to do this. I hope they do because it'd be delicious.

On Ronaldo, a return to Portugal or the rags?

Anywhere but those twats. He’s still quality and a huge commercial draw, I don’t want those fuckers getting him. Maybe he’ll try Bayern next? Or PSG.

100%. Been saying this on multiple threads. At least if we want the squad to be eligible in all competitions, i.e we arent going to shun players for the CL which many are happy to take for granted.

We are at full capacity now, a striker replaceds sergio, Garcia's space is irrelevant, Dinho stays, still at full capacity.

Persumably Carson may leave, but his space is onlynfreed up if a club trained keeper replaces him, any other keeper takes the space up again.
Could easily make room with Carson if needed. The fact he'd never played until we put him in for a laugh shows you how rare a 3rd choice keeper playing is, and we could bring Muric back.

We actually have 2 EDS goalkeepers who split playing time, so we could bring Slicker to senior games as 3rd choice when Trafford plays for the EDS and vice versa.

3 foreign places out of 17 being taken up with goalkeepers is terrible squad management.

That explains an awful lot of what I've heard about this summer's window. I should've maybe been less lazy and checked this myself weeks ago!

That was my point on Graelish. While we can argue there is no space in midfield given the palyers we have, as a concept assuming Pep could go play with 10 midfielders theoretically there IS space for him. However there is no Actual space in the squad for him, unless someone leaves, given we are at capacity currently.

So if we get a striker ditching Fodens doesn't really help us get Grealish, unless maybe we get Sturridge.

Sure, but as i keep saying, that is a theoretical assumption. We can also assume we will sell all 3 of Sterling Gabi and Marhrez. The fact is, Carson is currently in the squad, he is in the CL squad, we need 3 keepers on that list and unless there is a youth keeper to fill that space, Carson, or any senior keeper replacing him occupies that squad spot, no different to Kane or Mendy.

Not that Inter would EVER sell lukaku for 75m, this is complete nonsense, but if for some reason they did, he should be here tomorrow. absoiute no brainer.
Or absolute brain fart....depends on opinions...mine is Lakaku is a donkey, the same useless lump that played for Rags....scoring a load in the Italian Sunday pub league doesn't change that ;)

Yep. Or Schmeichel for example. Or iheanacho. Or bring someone through from the academy.

Yes, but you're pretending Carson is equal to Mendy or Mahrez.

He's not. He's out of the squad automatically on the 30th of June when he goes back to Derby and his loan ends. We don't need to find a buyer, we don't have to worry about anything...the decision is not "do we get rid of him?", it's "do we get him back?"

And using a youth GK is something Pep's already shown he's comfortable with in 18/19 with Muric.

So is the squad full? No. There's 2 places free and Pep can choose between bringing back a 36 year old GK or another big signing like Grealish and relying on a youth keeper - of which we have many.

Just expanding on the general thought here. There’s no room for him. Grealish isn’t a Leroy, Torres, or an ake type that you just bed in. We don’t have a best 11 but we still have a pecking orderz. Raz can’t even get big games and bringing Jack in will only compound that. There’s effectively no room for him. Bernardo is the only one who floats in between those two lines and we all know peps love for both ilkay and Bernardo.

It ain’t my problem but I’d like to know how pep figures that one out…you can’t keep mahrez, Phil, Ilkay, Raz, and Jack happy. That’s just too far for even pep.

as a theoretical, say kane ended up at Utd, and lukaku here, i would dare bet lukaku would do better and score more than kane.

Wow, I hadn't realised we were back on the limit with the squad. So basically someone has to leave for every incoming after the striker?
I’m fairly certain we can add 2 foreign players to our squad once Aguero leaves

Ederson
Steffan

candelo
Laporte
Dias
Mendy
Zinchenko

ferna
Gundogen
KDB
Rodri
Bernardo
New foreign midfielder/ Grealish

mahrez
Torres
Jesus
New foreign striker / kane

that’s 17. We are allowed 17

walker
Stones
Sterling
Ake
Homegrown

Foden
Club trained

if I’m wrong I apologize

In terms of squad spaces, he is equal to every other player, they all take up one space. While we have 4 or more honegrown players, that space is one of the 17 foreign quota.

The rest to me is immaterial. Currently, he is part of the squad. He may leave, he may extend, he may be replaced by Foster, by Degea, by a returning Bravo, anyone really, uness itnis a club trained player, that space will still be taken up. Maybe muric, who knows. I doubt it. Not sure he would count anyway given he has been on loan within the qualifying period but I could be wrong. It is still a theoretical assumption. Anything with 'we could' doesnt really matter, as it is, full squad, one in one out, till something changes.

Yes but one has to be a keeper, unless we use an academy one.

Inters owners are in massive financial trouble, they had to shut down their own club from China due to the debt being so high they own 70% of inter. Right now they are begging and pleading for loans. If they don’t get a loan they will be forced to sell Inter Milan off

You are missing or ignoring carson. He takes up a space. We don't know yet if he is leaving or extending/signing permanently (which the club tried in january). Or who is replacing him. If i club trained keeper does, you are right, one more space is freed up. Any other senior keeper, back to no spaces

You are wrong about Muric.

And you're wrong about the squad places. We currently have 2 free with Aguero and Carson leaving.

You go on a rant about ignoring what we "could" do, but the undeniable fact is that as of now, he isn't part of next years squad unless something changes.

You're trying very hard to frame it as 1 space unless we get rid of Carson, but actually it's 2 places unless we go out of our way to recruit a over 21 3rd goalkeeper.

I’ve said it before but I’d surprised is Kieren Westwood isn’t in our thoughts for 3rd choice keeper as he would be club trained. He’s out of contract with Sheffield Wednesday as well, though I vaguely recall @tolmie's hairdoo saying he turned us down a few years ago.

Considering space is at a premium I’d be very surprised if Carson stays.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if Ake is one of the players Pep mentioned that was pushing to leave.

I think the surprise person to leave would be Laporte, Spanish international and 3rd choice CB when he is quality, could see Real Madrid come in for him since Ramos is gone.
