Champions League Final | Post-Match Thread

My biggest team selection worry pre match was Pep playing Rodders and Fern :)

still think the 11 put out was good enough to win tho, and not enough players turned up
i feel a bit for the players. he confused them. Foden not on the left wing, Zinchenko not having the guy inside him to pass off as usual, mahrez weirdly being tucked in all the time and not stuck to the touchline, walker having
to go alone down the line

I haven't had enough of Pep but I agree that we needed Fernandinho in that team what a fucking stupid decision to drop our best player for an out of form one. It literally fucked the team right up. How many games has Gundogan played holding midfield this season?
And we all know that Chelsea scoring a goal that's way too much more difficult to score then.. And Pep give them an open avenue in midfield, exposing Stones and Dias a lot

Congratulations Chelsea. Fully deserved result. Should have started with Ferna or Rodri atleast. Pep not starting either affected the balance of the team imo and felt their goal could came from gundog being out of position. Overall still a successful season but wnt deny I'm feckin devastated.

Spot on, we have loads of guys doing analysis, but none bothered to to tell Pep that Sterling has been off form for 8 months, and it showed today, his touch was woeful and James had him in his pocket all game.
Gundogan is our top scorer this season, but not playing behind KDB, Silva and Foden.
Fernandinho has been on form and our best DM when he's played, and with the full backs pushing so high we bloody needed him.

I was no secret how Chelsea would play, they'd done it twice in the last month, so why set up and let them do it again.

It's not the first time Pep has done this, the league could have been wrapped up three games sooner and an FA cup semi final won had Pep not tried to be a smart arse.

He's brilliant, won us three leagues out of four, but he can be really frustrating at time.

The summer will be fun, a few players could be on their way, would we miss Mendy, Sterling and Jesus based on this seasons form?
Everything you said!

I wonder if any players will say something like Kev did after the Lyon disaster.

I’d sell mendy and Sterling and keep Jesus personally.

Tuchel idolizes Pep, he states that himself. He has gone in to chelsea and he has effectively set them up to play against us, no one else but us. He did it in the german league when against Bayern. The signs were there in the league game and the semi-final of the FA cup

It was just unfortunate that we had to play against them in the CL

It has nothing to do with the team selected whatsoever, Chelsea would have played the same way - this is the new threat for next season, just like the dippers did when they started challenging klipperty came in to beat us as the marker

It is down to Pep to change the structure and counter which he will do. We will make big moves in the market to make this happen

Chelsea have a bloody good team, they just under performed when lampard was in charge.

Chelsea will be challenging next season no doubt.

But I wont post on here tonight slagging our bloody manager and players off when the team we were against had our number regardless of what was done - it happens

We will learn and it will make us stronger and better

CTID
No City were a fucking Disgrace tonight and that result was down to 1 man fucking about with the team and including sterling

As over the top as I think the Sterling flak is at times, he can't afford to have another season like this one. It used to be that even if he's missing sitters he'd be creating havoc with his movement on and off the ball but he's not offering much at all when he plays, opposition are happy to let him have it these days and dispossess him when they choose to.

Are Chelsea a better team? No
Do Chelsea have a stronger starting 11? No
Is Tuchel a better manager than Pep? No

So, why did we lose and where did it go wrong? Player mentality and Pep. One plays into the other. They say shit rolls down hill, so does confidence. Many players would of seen that starting 11 tonight and lost confidence, that is where it went wrong. The players internally would of questioned the managers decisions like many fans and that is what we seen play out on the pitch, lack of confidence and uncertainty.

Bang on. The players were like rabbits in headlights from the start. We were crying out for Fernandinho's experience and leadership.

To be honest even if Ferna was there and we played same way as the semi I'm not sure it's going to be much different. They basically put 8 players behind the ball, suffocated the middle, and they just need to pass the ball to their wingers as fast as possible. Not that much different from how Wolves beat us 2 times last season really. We tried an attacking lineup, played a slow passing game and that played right into their hands.
With the players we have currently I can only think of one solution, which is to play more direct (like Ederson did in the first minutes).

Utter bollocks - pep had a day just a day not a great one perhaps but ffs he has won the premiership btw and that takes all season so just ponder that for a moment and then maybe u might realize what a monumental achievement that actually was and then ponder , if u can, we lost a cup match ,a one off -go think again - we have the best, the best coach in the world -just remember that when we do win that cup which we will sooner or later
No-one is questioning his ability to manage a squad over 38 games. At rotating, keeping everyone motivated, everyone playing the same system and being able to keep going irrespective of injuries and suspensions? He's demonstrably the best. We will win the league yet again next season, I have no doubt.

The issue is the one-off biggest, must win games. The question is, can he do it in the biggest game when it doesn't matter how you win, you just have to win. For 10 years now, he:s failed, even when having one of, if not the best team. And he's done it again tonight.

It's not just tonight is it. So questions do have to be asked

The Aussie commentators where I am watching are gobsmacked with the selection. They reckon Pep over-thought it.
Nope, don’t you know This was Guardiolas ace card, play a player who hasn’t played well for months, can’t kick the ball properly and who loves to run into a bunch of players hoping to come out with the ball. Unfortunately Chelsea just laughed and said thank you very much.
