Champions League Final | Post-Match Thread

Worked wonders. Gundogan got a yellow card anyway ffs. Spurious reasoning.
Maybe, but none of our players were anywhere near as aggressive in closing down Chelsea as they would normally be and we started with none of our players who 'get stuck in' i.e. Fernandinho, Rodri or Cancelo.
People complain about Pep over thinking things and in this case I think he over thought the referee rather than the opposition.

We are City, super City from Maine Road!

We're disappointed we lost a Champs League final, after winning the league and the league cup. I love this club!
Why would any City fan not be disappointed ?

It was there for us and we blew it. I am hugely disappointed.

It's a forum for fucks sake people are pissed off that Pep in our most important game ever has gone and fucked with the team again, man we all love what he has done with the other trophies but it's fucking ridiculous what he's done tonight.
I know right. Peps the best manager we have ever had. He has delivered domestically consistenly but he has fucked up tonight and deserves the criticism.

Although I don’t agree with Pep’s selection I think the players he selected played poorly- De.Bruyne, Mahrez, Sterling, Stones, Silva - none of them turned up tonight. I think the performance of the players actually made Pep’s selection look even worse. In the first half I can’t think of one player who played to his normal standard
Tbh, I dont think a single player warranted more than 5/10

' the chelsea goal was on the card from kick off. the team was not right and sterling was the wrong choice and missing most the Q/F and semi final but plays in the final. pep will be the only one that knows why

its done and dusted the game has gone and nothing can be done or changed now
Pep has poor stats of recovering from a losing position. I put it down to stubbornness.

Anybody who watches city regularly knows that when things start off badly, they rarely improve. It is great and frustrating in equal measure, being a city fan!

You never know how long it will be.

United went 31 years between their first two
Barcelona went 31 years between their first two
Arsenal have only ever got to one despite winning the league in every decade between 1930-2010 and having that brilliant team in the 00s.

It might be next year, it might be 31 years, it might be never again.
Great post.
Tonight has been an education for me.

They’re all to blame but Stones was really poorly positioned
I thought he made a poor decision to come for the ball, but where was dias as the left sided cd and zinch wasn't goal side and never tried - it was basically a set play from Chelsea - you could hear the shout

Pep repeating his Lyon masterclass, over thought it again, I'm trying to calm down, but as good has he's been this season that result and non performance is on Pep.

No CDM killed us tonight. Ferna would have filled that gap and broken up their attacks. He is our Kante. Why wait for 60 mins when it obvious after 10 mins. Just don't get that.
nail on head, that change should have been made after 20 minutes.

Ffs .. get me on that plane and get me home

what a complete anti climax. What a complete no show. We’ve had more damaging defeats in important games before but that is right up there with the biggest ever disappointments

I wouldn’t mind if we’d gone down fighting but we lost without even a whimper

very very poor from everybody including pep. Just play the team that battered PSG twice ffs

No. Its the belief that a City team should turn up and have a go, give their all and make the supporters proud, win or lose. Not absolutely and pathetically shit themselves against a team they are miles better than.
If that rabble wearing out shirt tonight showed as much effort, commitment and belief as the thousands who went to unprecedented hassle, trouble and expense just getting to Porto then we would have won easily
Oh get a grip.
If you honestly believe they didn’t want to try to win that you’re deluded.
You could see the hurt across all their faces at the end.
You can’t win every game and today they weren’t helped by the manager.
The best team doesn’t always win.
It’s why we love football.

Well I really wanted to win this, there's no telling when the next chance to win it will come. You know what though? It's still a great time to be a blue, we got to our first CL final and won the League and a cup to go with it. We weren't embarrassed or dominated by any means, we didn't perform but it was still a tight game with fine margins. Foden could have scored two with a little more luck, maybe sell the defender making the block a dummy and get a free shot on goal or a penalty if he played it right. I'm not complaining though he had very little time on both chances, but those were our best.

If we had gone ahead, I don't see Chelsea getting back into the game either is the thing, we were quite well matched and I think that's a lot to do with Tuchel's obsession with Pep. Pep will work him out next year like he did in Germany.
