Champions League Final | Post-Match Thread

I think for all the ifs buts and maybe’s, we have to accept that Chelsea played very well, executing their plan to perfection and they might have won anyway playing that well. They really should have sealed it in the second half with that chance that he put wide and could have had two more in the first half. We will never know what would have happened. For me too many players didn’t show up. We looked nervous and edgy and our usual crisp passing was missing. It’s was just a very poor performance and a very good one from Chelsea. I’m not sure changing one player would have led to an exhilarating performance. We have been stuttering since the rags match for me with 3/4 exceptional performances thrown in. We needed one last night and we didn’t get it.
It wasn't just changing one player that was the issue, it's the domino effect.

1. We lose our usual defensive protection.

2. Foden changes position.

3. Gundog changes position.

4. We play a player out of form.

5. Chelsea realise early on they can get at us defensively. This affects their mentality & approach, & ours too!

Looking on the bright side, if we had won then the trophy would be ”worthless, you paid for it, plastic” today it’s Chelsea who are filling that slot.

in a bizarre way it also takes pressure off the Glazers and the euphoria of City getting beat should pacify the zebra pant wearing numpties and keep the wonderful Glazer reign going for another few decades.

and yes I am clutching at straws!

We may all have to accept that we wont win this bent competition with Pep at the helm. Personally I am okay with that as I only care about the domestic stuff anyway but I accept I’m probably in the minority with that view.
It’s just that year after year after year after year he tries to be clever when what is required in the CL is pragmatism. He does it in big league games too but we invariably have 30+ games to make up for it in the league.

I’ll be quite happy to wait for success in europe until after Pep has left which I hope is in a few more years yet.

My only frustration this morning is that I believe Pep doesn’t see City as ‘big enough’ or ‘historically important enough’ to really be at the very top table and consequently feels the need to try and over egg the pudding in compensation.

Let’s have another few years of domestic success and worry about Europe when we change manager eventually.
What was bent about last night?

Did UEFA chose the team?

Can't believe how many posts I'm reading complaining about Pep "tinkering".

We beat PSG with a 4-4-2 low block and two counter attacks. We never play like that. Where were the people saying he should have played the strongest team the same way as usual then?

The year Leicester won the league Pellegrini played the same way he always did against them at home and we went to the ground knowing we'd be set up all wrong for them, with Demichelis in a high line. No surprise we lost. Everyone complained about that then.

The adjustment last night made sense but it didn't work. Fair fucks to Chelsea, they executed their game plan well.

The sense of entitlement is a joke. You won't know how lucky we are to have Pep until he's gone.
He did tinker. We messed up.
It can't be dressed up any other way

Straws? who cares what the media say, Chelsea have a big daft eared pot on the plane going home to London.

No one wants to say it but when it comes to the really big games Pep loses the plot

Over thinks it

Are Chelsea better than us? No

Yet they now beat us 3 times on the bounce. Come on

Why is that?

Because our manager has a complex, as soon as the team was announced we all knew. Who does that?

A dickhead

thats the line up i was quietly confidant about all week , than 6:45 saturday and my heart sank !
Mate, it was the fear most City fans had, & something most pundits debated as a distinct possibility. Essentially Pep shot us in the foot.

The question is; if he had the chance to replay yesterday's match again, would he do the same again? It's becoming a valid & very worrying question. :-|

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but given what happened last night, if Pep had the chance to replay the match, would he put out the same lineup & formation again?

:-|

He looks a right tit today, for doubling down.Getting flak from everywhere for dropping Fern to the Bench.

Should have held up his Hands, and said this was the biggest fuck up of his managerial career.Which it was.

Not a bit of it.

His genius was not to be questioned.

We played not so good first half, better in the second.

His tactics had fuck all to do with the defeat.

Plucky City, the Club with no history until his Ego arrived, gave a good account of their selves against a Big Club, with lots of history.

I wonder how key players feel today.

Got a feeling we have not heard the last of this debacle.

Commiserations lads and lasses I really hoped you would get that treble. However, not a bad season on the whole for you a couple of good trophies in the cabinet. We didn't get promotion this year but we got a pizza cup for our showcase ! Have a good holiday season, you lot, and we'll all be back next year to do it all over again, but better !

Was going to give my tuppence worth and dissect it all down to the last kick but feel better if I think they have all been on a bender this last week.
What with winning the premier League and everyone's birthdays it's been a week of getting on it.
Only human after all.

I think @ayrshire_blue was expressing a feeling of confidence rather than being arrogant and why shouldn’t we be confident? We didn’t fluke it to the final and bad judgement potentially cost us the trophy.

Exactly this. I doubt that any rag, dipper or whoever else is kicking off that they won't be in position to win the league ever again. Feel the same with us for the CL. We lost a cup final, it hurts, but it happens. If we had one or two in the bag the hurt probably wouldn't be so bad.

But we're a top side now, well run and no reason that we'll completely regress from this point. It might not be next season or the one after but we'll get there eventually I'm sure.

We lost because Chelsea did not allow us to play. They marked tightly and closed down every pass in the final third. Mahrez was denied time and space. Sterling was dominated by James.

It looked similar to the way Brighton played us recently. Have we been sussed?
Double like. Yes we have but jeez Guardiola leave the team sheet to the fans you just focus on coaching.

I hope the senior execs are questioning last night, they should be.

Just unlucky that the ghost of Cruyff visited pep again Friday night, that or Tuchel sneaked into his wardrobe.

Whooo pass pass pass pass

Fuck off we are doing well

Whooo pass pass total football

Go away please don’t do this to me again

Whooo pass pass total football more attacking players

Okay I will drop Dinho and play sterling just go away

Zat iz a gud boy shit I mean whooo the cup is yours

Until 7pm when the team was announced... one of the best days ever following city

by 5am when I crawled into my bed... one of the worst days ever which I wish had never happened and could be erased from my memory

the Owners, the club and the fans invested so much into this one game, probably more than any other game we’ve ever played

in one moment of insanity pep destroyed it. He should be admitting his inexplicable brain fart fuck up and apologising
