Transfer forum is hilarious… yes he is out of form at the moment and needs to sort it out but his numbers and contributions in the not so distant past were incredible

I remember seeing a quote a few years ago about how he wants to move from the wing and play more central. He was banging in the goals at this point so rightly so the question was asked. He said that his form is roughly the same but he is getting the plaudits because he is scoring.

I might be wildly speculating but for me this might be the core issue. He wants to rack up numbers like Ronaldo/Messi for example.

Raz has stopped playing as a winger and is trying to become a no 9. It’s like watching bambi on ice.

Maybe pep has said no and wants to keep him on the wing and thus sterling is not having it and tbh his displays would indicate as much.

Could be way off the mark.

On hindsight, pep maybe should have played him as the false 9 against Chelsea and put Foden on the lm. Taking into account that he rolled the dice with sterling in the team.

100%

There are more in form players staying at home, but in his favour......he does generally play better for England.
That last sentence is a key point. I’ve said previously he looks better in an England shirt these days and his stats over the last dozen games prove that.
I think he can play his more natural game for the national team because I doubt he’s got a shed load of instructions running through his head like he will at City.
I hope he has a great tournament because I’m in no doubt he’s still with us next year. Him coming back to preseason on the back of a good euros might be the jolt he needs to start believing in himself again.

100% Tried to 'go up a level' this season, starting playing differently, trying to play inside and beat players with skill rather than pace, play de bruyne passes and score bangers etc. The difficulty being he doesn't have another level to go up to and he just started getting tackled, scoring less goals and giving the ball away more.

Used in a very limited way, sterling can do a lot of damage. Can rack up tap ins and split the defence with late runs. But in trying to become elite he's messed up the very good player that he was. Back to basics, stay wide, score the tap ins, stop trying skill and he'll be back to 2018/19 sterling.

Problem is not sure he's got the humility to accept his limitations, even if it makes him more effective.

Bang on,i think he holds all the cards. We offer him a new 5 yr deal and he's on a winner,or he runs his current one down and he's equally laughing.

He is going nowhere until he's on a free, that is the only way he becomes decent value.
Run his contract down?
He spat his dummy out a couple of times when dropped by Pep this season.
Strikes me as someone who would consider all options if he wasn't guaranteed a starting place o a regular basis

I think he plays better too but for a different reason. Cup competitions are more open games with space behind more often than not, available

Where was our details-obsessed, system-driven manager when Sterling just unilaterally decided he wanted to start playing an entirely different role in the team?

Its a shame there's a summer tournament as I think a break/reset is what he really needs but on the other hand maybe he gets his form back in a different environment?

So you think Sterling (or any of our players) just goes out on the pitch and does whatever he wants until the manager stops selecting him? Also, didn't Pep pick him for a big game fairly recently? Can't quite pull it...

It's just bizarre fan fiction at the moment. Write whatever nonsense you like and as long as it's negative the usual suspects will pile in and agree with you no matter how ludicrous it is.

I'm not going to dive into the personal insults, but I really hope he moves on. As the team has evolved, it's abundantly clear that he is now a square peg... In my opinion he is the total opposite to a 'Pep player'. Raheem is not technical, gives the ball away, wastes chances, is headless, and worst of all selfish. I'm still furious that Pep put him in for the final. No doubt Raheem was in Peps ear about how good he would play if he gave him the chance. I really don't see where he goes though. If he left and was replaced by any of the targets mentioned, It would be a serious upgrade.

I think Pep starting him in the final should have given him that belief. Wasnt the game to give him a confidence booster. Looks absolutely shot at the moment, I worry the opposite that a bad euros means an even more fragile Sterling returns. The reality is on form he shouldn’t be playing though, but will and take the blame should it go wrong.
