Not sure how I feel about this. My daughter is nowhere near 12 yet but she won’t be getting the vaccine that’s for sure. I had it, but injecting kids with a new vaccine for something that doesn’t affect them doesn’t sit right.

In absolutely no way agreeing or disagreeing with your stance, but for balance, the risk of long Covid even in kids is real, it's well wide of the mark to suggest this doesn't affect them.

On Zoe btw Luton is now the worst area in the south on 5336

And both Conwy and Denbighshire - the North Wales coastal areas - Llandudno - Rhyl etc - have gone onto the lowest watrch zone at just over 1000.

The Wrexham area is the only other real issue in Wales on 4565 - over quite a lot of GM - and bordering the pink mass of the NW hardly a shock.

Indeed Drakeford just said now he sees no way to have stopped the variant getting into Wales from NW England given the considerable cross border flow of people day to day.

On 10 Dec England had 289 deaths & 17, 622 cases v 18 deaths and 4310 cases yesterday.

There were 13, 796 in hospital v 779 yesterday and 1110 on ventilators v 124 yesterday.
I do think many people would be surprised to learn there are (only) 779 people in English hospitals right now.

Much more relevant than the hysteria whipped up by the media when England had 2 (Bank Holiday affected) zero death days and then cases rises

England hopital deaths:

5 with 2 from the NW - it was 11 with 4 from NW last week and 5 with 1 the week before.

Of the others 2 were from the Midlands and 1 from East

The 2 from NW were one from Bolton and one from Pennine Acute

1 was aged 40 - 59, and 2 each aged 60 - 79 and 80 PLUS

All 5 deaths were from the last 72 hours.

How do you feel about the vaccines she will already have had:
Diphtheria
Hepatitis B
Haemophilus Influenzae Type B
Polio
Tetanus
Pertussis
Rotavirus
Meningococcal Group B
Pneumococcal
Meningitis C
Measles
Mumps
Rubella
Influenza
Human Papillomavirus

How many of them have you researched to see how new or safe they are?

Covid won’t harm her though, so why bother? Especially when we know that there are people aged 70+ throughout the world who will die, who wouldn’t have died, had they got her vaccine.

It wont kill her ( unless very very unlucky ), Harm is another matter. still quite low but 1 in a 200 chance of long covid. does Long Covid count as harmful?

The "should" is a very good point. and very much a personal choice. as a 45 year old I was perfectly fine when India decided to stop shipping us vaccines as they needed it a lot more than I did.

very tricky choice on that front

Fine mate, they are all viruses that could impact her and the vaccines have existed for years. If it's still around in years to come and there have been no ill effects on kids then it will be a different story.

It is for a Friday yes. No real sign at all of any serious reverse in either hospital numbers or deaths - which so far is very good news. Though deaths would always be the last to show and the ventilator numbers rising in the past 2 weeks just a tad is a number we need to watch. Small as it is.

But from thousands of cases over the past month in Bolton very few as yet have translated into deaths.

There have been 8 Covid deaths in Bolton in the past 4 weeks from 3934 cases over those same days.

On that date I compared above 10 Dec there were 4 deaths that single day alone in Bolton. And 73 in the 4 week period of which it is the mid point out of 1839 cases.

So double the cases now than then for just over 10% of the deaths now v then.

This is a big cases wave but as yet nothing like the waves of the past.

You have to assume the vaccines are why.

Great stats these comparisons, you must have amassed quite a bit of data on this!

I guess the parents of the 7 year old in this article thought the same

Same here - a year ago the number was 5 dead. What do you base your research on?

thank you for the confirmation on Bolton, let's hope the other gm boroughs don't have many deaths...

OTHER ZOE APP NUMBERS

Preston is still the worst in the NW other than Bury - on 7770 - slightly up from 7752.

Bury is JUST ahead of it as highest numbers in the NW on 7779.

Chorley rises to 4420 from 4108 above much of GM.

And Wyre is up from the 3000s to 4360 (Wyre is the area around Blackpool and Fleetwood).

Leeds is now the highest in Yorkshire at just 3386. Numbers in Yorkshire are much less high in real life and any uotick is small as yet and cases are nowhere near the NW.

They are ONE QUARTER of NW when just 3 weeks ago Yorkshire was AHEAD of the NW. It has grown with this new variant more slowly than anywhere else. We should be asking why?

Just to show this more clearly.

Yesterday here were the regional reported cases.

NB:- THESE ARE IN REAL LIFE REPORTED CASES DATA - NOT ON ZOE.

With the number from 7 days ago in brackets to see the weekly change

NW 1643 (1025)

LONDON 573 (295)

SOUTH EAST 440 (310)

YORKSHIRE 421 (305)

WEST MIDLANDS 315 (196)

EAST MIDLANDS 244 (322) * Note the FALL

EAST 210 (388) * And and even bigger FALL

SOUTH WEST 132 (65)

NORTH EAST 113 (165) * the only Northern region to fall week to week.

im in Morecambe, so i count as Lancaster LTLA, and i've been watching this variant hop from Bolton to Blackburn to Preston to so on and so on and now Wrye which is next door....Lancaster your time has come.

it's everywhere. it'll be everywhere. have we broken the chain with enough vaccinations to avoid another rush on the hospitals when it is so vitally important to work on the backlog? feel totally powerless.
