if im not being stupid, your NI posts always seem to indicate that NI do < 2k tests per day, which seems to me incredibly low. Have they always been like this or just knocked it on the head recently?

edit: i checked, they do about 70k per week
They use a different way of calculating and always have which can make their testing numbers look odd compared with the other nations.

I just use people testing positive not tests.

Those 54 cases today are from 1706 INDIVIDUALS tested. So no double counting of tests.

This is the data they prefer to post - rightly I think as it is really what we want to know.

How many people of those who were tested today tested positive.

You are using the wrong perspective. Zoom out. We are nearly there. Whether in 2 or 6 weeks time.

if they say the vaccines are working really well against the variants and keeping people out of the hospitals and deaths as appears to be the case, so we have the extra supplies of vaccines and need a couple of weeks to ramp up the vaccines no problem.

if however it’s just a delay to monitor data and give the restrictions more time , no. All that willl happen is in three weeks time it will be the same debate and those who argue it will be reckless to open up Will keep saying so.

we are just kicking the can down the road.

single figure deaths and declining hospitalisations means we should open up with individual recommendations for vulnerable or nervous to continue to follow. It’s not ever going to be against the law to wear a mask if you want to.,

I've been expecting the number of 1st jabs to pick up pace recently but that doesn't seem to be happening. Seems to be 100K start of the week to 200K end of the week for a while now. Is this because of the AZ issue? Anybody have any inside info?
Isn't it just that the emphasis is now on second jabs, because those receiving first jabs are less vulnerable or are you referring to higher likelihood of complications amongst lower ages with AZ?
The last day reported, 6 june, there were just over 725,000 jabs delvered in total.

Not really. The more data collected and analysed creates more accurate results. We need to get to the point where the data collected stabilises the efficacy of the vaccines against the new variant. If that is done before June 21st and is an acceptable result, then we open up. If it hasn’t given us a stabilised percentage or given us an acceptable figure, we delay until it does.

I would agree. If they say that a 2 week delay will enable x% of people to be vaccinated and a firm date is agreed, I think people could live with that. If however, it’s a case of we’ll review again in 2 weeks and see where we are, it effectively means every event, wedding, party, gig, festival is cancelled until August.

Government comments (not just Hancock) are that as the data stands June 21 will not be postponed - though some restrictions will remain for a while - e.g. working from home where possible, the wearing of face masks in buildings and possibly table service in pubs and restaurants.

The Govt handling of the recent weeks has been awful, they seem to be making it up as the go along now.
Don't trust a word they say, I don't like Cummings but agree with a lot of stuff he said. Clowns.

Well going off what I have seen in recent weeks that's all been abandoned by people anyway.

that last point should stay beyond Covid.

one of the best things being in the pub and have a nice person bring you your beer to the table instead of the bar scrum. Love it.

Said it previously but things like this are actually a positive to have come out of the pandemic

Where have you seen that as I haven't. Masks indoors, table service and lots of family and friends still working from home is what I'm seeing.
No masks wearing in the building I work near the airport, roads a lot busier now and a few people I know been ordered back to the office and in the pub I went to on Friday, people ordering at the bar and dancing.

Of course you can take that cynical approach, but no one anywhere is trying to lock us down forever.

What isn’t known at the moment is the efficacy of the vaccines. That is currently being put to the test by this Indian variant running rife among younger people.

Once there is enough sustained data to show the vaccines are working against hospitalisations, we will open up fully.

This surge has coincided too close to the “freedom” date, hence talk of it being deferred slightly.

have to say I disagree, Independant Sage have done nothing but push for stronger and further restrictions and they get plenty of airtime in the media.

There will always be further variants that they will want more data on and there will always be people who don’t want to or can’t have the vaccine.

If there’s going to be an exit wave better to get it out of the way now rather than flu season
