After hearing Khaldoon speak about bringing in quality, in key positions, surely we have to be outbidding any other club to get Haaland, or if not then get Kane instead.

If Chelsea have the cash for these deals then we must also have, I don’t see how we could let rivals get this kind of player when it’s obvious that a world class striker is exactly what we desperately need.

What if the player doesn’t want to sign for us?
 
I would genuinely be happy to let City have Haaland, if he figures being quoted are correct. There are better ways to use our resources than blowing £175m on one player.

I think you underestimate the lure of ‘Landan’ to some. Chelsea are equally as an attractive proposition as us if the bright lights are your thing.

With the agent he’s got, it’s money that counts - so long as the club concerned has good prospects & Chelsea under Tuchel tick all the boxes. We won’t pay what his agent is demanding

Whilst that's all true, Pep will likely only be here for two more seasons. Chelse are in the CL too, have just won the competition and can match whatever wage we offer. There's also the London factor.

They're still the two richest clubs in football.

They may be suffering with debt due to crazy spending and ridiculous wage bills, but they both generate revenue well over double Atletico, and are about four times the size of the next biggest club in La Liga.

They aren't going anywhere soon.
 
I can see the logic in signing Kane if Haaland isn't available this summer. It's a position we desperately need filling and Kane is one of the best in the business.
If, however, Haaland is willing to move this window and we don't get involved, leaving Chelsea with a free hit then it's ridiculous business by us. Allowing him to go to our biggest rivals (imo) for the title just doesn't make sense.
Of course there's all sorts of reasons that us plebs don't hear about behind the scenes as to why certain things happen in the transfer market but on face value, if both are available and the fees are there or thereabouts it makes no sense to me that we would prioritise Kane.
Interesting couple of months ahead.

The problem is sometimes its not just about cash... maybe Haaland prefers London or the Chelsea project - who knows... you can't obtain all your targets no matter how many resources you have. We certainly seem to be a long way down the road on plan B - so plan A cant be looking overly hopeful but it doesn't mean things wont change again; its a fluid situation but I think we are more likely to sign Kane than Haaland i would think... equally if Chelsea blow circa €200m on Haaland - that's their business - think I'd take Grealish and Kane for a similar outlay.

True.

But how much of that revenue goes to service that debt? For all the noise from the swamp the rags can easily service the Glazer's debt and then some, I get the impression that's not the case with Barca and Real.

In the transfer market cash is king for all the talk of creativity.
