Erling Haaland

I'd love for us to sign Haaland - no chance this happens unless Haaland comes to us and says that signing for us is top priority for him. He's far too expensive based on whom we've signed in the past - and we've been successful past season without a top striker fit and available.

Our biggest need next window, IMO, is a box-to-box defensive mid.

Not any world class striker, though. If we let Chelsea get Haaland, basically everything we have been building towards could be in jeopardy. I sound dramatic, but I genuinely believe that
No it wouldn't be in jeopardy, they said the same about Hazard, they said the same last summer when Chelsea bought Werner and Havertz while we bought Torres,Haaland would be nice, but we'll be fine, either way.Relax.

I just wonder whether the rags signing Sancho, would put a halt to any chance of Dortmund letting Haaland go in the same window.

I don't think it does per se, it just means that they can name their price this summer as they know they're guaranteed his release fee next year. Quite similar to what they did with Sancho last year. And what they might end up doing with Bellingham in a few years time.

Every single one of our players are "box to box". It goes without saying in a Pep system. But we have much more pressing needs than a defensive midfielder if Fernandinho resigns. Left back and centre forward are miles more important to the club.

I'm Intrigued to find out what's gone on behind the scenes with this one. It wasn't long ago it looked like we were in the driving seat and most noises from the media pointed to us being favourites to sing him.
I could understand if he's not willing or able to move this window but if he does and it's to Chelsea I'm genuinely struggling to wrap my head around it.

Respectfully - I completely disagree. 100%.

If Fernandinho leaves - we're left with no one as a true destroyer - neither Gundo nor Rodri nor in fact anyone in our squad fits this role at all.

At left back, we're weak - but we can play a bunch of fillers in this role. I agree though that an upgrade at left back would be high priority.

At striker - I agree that we don't have a great option once Sergio leaves. Normally I'd rate striker as our top priority signing next window - save for the fact that Pep now plays our side where we function quite well without a top striker.

Further, it seems to me that this strikerless formation/tactics/strategy may be what Pep prefers.

Finally if we want to sign a top stiker - say Kane or Halaand - it's going to cost a fortune - this at the time where FIFA has all kinds of reasons to hate us.

So am I, Europe's elite clubs are failing, our biggest threat of world domination will come from English clubs.
Always makes me smile that ...world domination. If Chelsea do get Haaland, Tuchel could well take his Chelsea team to the next level and win the league next year. We'll be there or thereabouts if we can get in a top striker ourselves. I'd also like us to sabotage the Sancho deal and sell Sterling to offset the outlay.

Do we need to sign a top striker? Pep's - seemingly - preferred system does not feature a dedicated striker.

Sancho is a rag player, I just hope Lingard stays at Old T, the dabbing with him ,Pogba and Sancho will be wonderful.

Sancho is good but 80m?

Yes. Regardless of how many times you post that we don't.
Then why is it that we nearly won the C/L and easily won the P/L playing without a top striker?

Look - I'd dearly love for us to sign Haaland (first choice) or Kane - but I honestly think that we will not - for various reasons - among which Pep has found a system where a top striker is not necessary for success.

We played without a top striker because we didn't have a top striker available for most of the season.

Agreed somewhat.

But consider this - when our 2nd choice striker was fit what did we mostly do? And then, finally, when our top striker (Kun) was fit... what did we do?

To answer both of my rhetorical questions - we played without a dedicated striker, even in our most important matches, by choice. To me, this indicates that Pep does not value a dedicated striker as a must - and in fact - may prefer to play without one.

I think we'll likely sign an upcoming stiker in the next window - because - at the least - it affords flexibility in formation. I do not expect us to spend big on stiker next window though - I very much doubt that Haaland or Kane will be in our side next season because of this (and because FIFA are likely wanting any excuse whatsoever to throw us under the bus).
