Retiring

I have many happy memories of biking as a kid but I think it's a bit too dangerous on the roads now. With proper cycle lanes I'd buy one tomorrow.
I’m in the same frame of mind about biking, make it safer and i would be all for it, I’m going to start mountain biking instead, it will mean I have to drive somewhere to do it properly but I’ll have loads of time to do it.

I remember the freedom it gave me as a kid, nice feeling. No way am I riding on these roads today. An old boy who lived near my sister went biking everyday and was killed recently up near me, very sad.

Retire but don't stop engaging with the world or you will turn into a vegetable. I see that a lot. Stress keeps you alive.

Yes I'm in my fifth year now and I do miss the buzz of the job at times. Obviously covid hasn't helped either.

I wonder what people think about selling your property and renting? This is for someone without kids to leave the property to of course. Part of me thinks it's nuts but part of me thinks I could get a large lump sum to spend. The downside is of course paying rent.

My aunt and uncle have just done this. They sold their house in Timperly and have moved into an over 55's complex near navigation road station. It is warden assisted and they have a huge shared room to socialise in of they want. Their apartment is a one bedroom and very nice. My uncle has two private pensions and he said his state pension pays the rent. His wife has her pensions so I suppose they are well off compared to many. I guess you have to try and balance how long your savings from the sale of the house last to pay for holidays etcetera to how long you are going to possibly live.
