I take it you're not married then...It's the freedom it brings. Nobody dictating what you do with your time. For many of us it will be the first time since we started bloody school.

I'm lucky in that I work in engineering consultancy so if I do want a little bit of work here and there to keep me out of trouble, I can stay on their books as an associate.Nice,a phased departure;-) thinking part time might be the answer too if 55 unrealistic
Not much.I wonder what people think about selling your property and renting? This is for someone without kids to leave the property to of course. Part of me thinks it's nuts but part of me thinks I could get a large lump sum to spend. The downside is of course paying rent.
My aunt and uncle have just done this. They sold their house in Timperly and have moved into an over 55's complex near navigation road station. It is warden assisted and they have a huge shared room to socialise in of they want. Their apartment is a one bedroom and very nice. My uncle has two private pensions and he said his state pension pays the rent. His wife has her pensions so I suppose they are well off compared to many. I guess you have to try and balance how long your savings from the sale of the house last to pay for holidays etcetera to how long you are going to possibly live.
Stress is ok in small doses. Try to keep it to a minimum though. This is my stress pattern for yesterday. I'm working on eliminating those more stressful 18 minutes.Retire but don't stop engaging with the world or you will turn into a vegetable. I see that a lot. Stress keeps you alive.
How long ago was that?I went at 55, 3 years earlier than I expected. They found a kidney tumour that I had no idea about. Kidney gone and back to work I went. Surgeon said if the tumour was a footballer it would be Vinnie Jones-nasty and aggressive. Then a routine check found a tiny tumour in my bladder. Had it removed and gave work 3 months notice. I took the transfer value on my final salary pension and haven't looked back. Life can be very fragile.
Depending on size/value of your property, would selling and downsizing be an option? Or equity release, although, by all accounts, it’s a mine field and you need your wits about you.I wonder what people think about selling your property and renting?
