The police officer who killed Atkinson has been convicted of manslaughter.

He was lucky it wasn't murder, in my opinion.

"Monk was accused of lying in court about his account, and of kicking and stamping on Atkinson’s head while he was barely conscious on the ground.

Monk is the first officer convicted of manslaughter during the course of his duties in over three decades.

Atkinson was kicked with such force his blood was found in the laces of Monk’s police issue boots."

A single conviction in 30 years, despite hundreds of deaths in police custody in that time, suggests the bar for prosecution is almost certain to be unreasonably high

When you kick someone in the head twice , hard by the blood splatter, you have to know you can kill him

Indeed, but did he set out to kill him? If you can’t prove that, you can’t convict of murder.
