Simples go back in time one commentator had the game covered. He even told you City were in sky blue even though you had a black and white tv, but you knew what was going on. Now it's a double act and all you get are their slanted views.

"For those of you watching in black and white, the pink is behind the green".

Listening to Talksports coverage of the Spain v Slovakia in the car , when Ferran Torres came on the commentator said something like "Ferran Torres is about to come on , who cost Manchester City the best part of £40 million" ...firstly he cost £20.8 million , which by my reckoning is the best part of £21 million and secondly why do they always have to bring the price of the player into it if he plays for City .. Adama Traore came on but they didnt mention he cost Wolves £18 million or £2 million less than the best part of £40 million as Talksport would have it.
It’s a downplay everything positive related to Manchester City attitude, Torres scores with his first touch off the bench and it’s , “he’s a multi million pound benchwarmer at Manchester City as well as Spain”, the drip drip drip of negativity.
For the feeble minded around the globe it really does damage the brand. I’m 53 and have Americans who have never even heard of Maine Road/Perry Suckling’s Pig calling me a plastic fan?

A bit harsh on the commentators. The duo are trying to have a conversation about games from years past, discussing players from 30 ago, informing us there has only ever been three 0-0 draws at Wembley on a Wednesday night. Trying to do all this while being continually interrupted by a football match going on at the same time.

Or Jonathan Pearce giving us the synopsis to the "This is your life" episode for each player on the pitch and then telling us just how many Joel Pohjanpalo posters he has on his wall.

Not sure with rooney he was basically saying that phil is to good for England !
And that phil needed to lower his standards like Blackburn to become an England player. ,) sarcasm !

Phil is a City player and plays to a higher level than most of his England teammates. His footballing brain works so quick that by the time phil has decided what he is going to do, his England teams are still thinking how to trap the ball ! So Phil's movement is wasted.
Walker yesterday charged down the line a few times but had to pass back as nothing was on. The same with Stones. Same when Sterling makes his runs.
The City lads seem to be that much quicker in thought.
Alternatively, Walker passed back because he can't cross for toffee.

Spot on.

Southgate picks City players because of their positional awareness and positive play as well as skills.
They make team mates look better but lack the same level of support from them and are criticised for being made to look bad or worse for making mistakes when they are left isolated and hung out.

As an earlier poster said, both the goals and 3 hits of the post came from City players. No others have come as close. City players have also played a key role in not conceding a goal.

That being the case how has Foden stood out at every other age group? We can say if any of our players aren’t quite cutting it. Stones and Walker have been good. Foden and Sterling ok. Our players aren’t gods and lightyears above everyone else.

Could it be that for England, Sterling is being played in the position that phil has done well for City. For City phil is keeping Sterling on the bench. For England its Sterling keeping Foden on the bench ;)

The selection of Sterling tells me that Southgate will not be swayed by the clamour for the flavour of the month in the media. I suspect he knows their agenda is to sell papers/gain clicks not to provide genuine advice. England’s best team involves people who can keep the ball, which will become more and more crucial the further England goes in the tournament. Of the various options available, that’s Foden by a distance.

Foden wasn’t even on the bench against the Czech Republic - like Walker against Scotland. I suspect Foden will be a starter, completely rested, against Germany.

True but Sterling and Foden have largely been left isolated with Kane and midfield well behind in a defensive set up. Peps teams are about moving the ball quickly so players need others to be available. Compare Mount with Grealish in their positions and the way they play and move the ball. Grealish is more Rodney Marsh. Bellingham also has managed to get forward to support play as did Saka.

It is about Southgate and the way he sets up his teams. Winning knockout competitions is simply about scoring more goals than the opposition. No-one claims our players are lightyears above others. They do have a history of success and add something extra to the team.

I don't think it works like that in Southgate's head. He persists with Kane who out of the players we have seen in 3 games he stands out as the least effective.

I'll have you know that Bellingham will soon be 18...

... and what's more, Dave Whelan broke his leg in the Cup Final playing for Blackburn.

JJ
Fact you don't know is that it was treated at Egerton Lodge in Withington a small private clinic in its day.

I have the Football 365 app on my phone. Like us they see the media for what they are and take the piss out of individual reporters who write the shite we complain about on here.
Well worth a read
