Running thread

I am running to lose weight on a treadmill, what kind of time is 58:40 for 8k.
I honestly wouldn't get hung up on times unless you are trying to enter races and have a particular goal time. If the goal is weight loss then just doing the work is what you need, the time is immaterial. You'll probably find you get naturally a bit faster both through better strength and stamina and reduced weight but if you don't, so what?

Also, how do transition from machine to road, I find it really hard to run outdoors but can plug away for over an hour the treadmill.

For me, treadmills are one big blag.

If you can run 8k in that time you should be able to run outside easy.

The only way to get into it, is to do it mate.

I just feel tired in no time at all outside, also a bit self conscious as well tbh.

I also think when outside I am running to fast but on the machine you set your speed and plug away.

As for boredom on the machine I just play music and blank everything out lol

Have a look at the posts on this thread re Maffetone training mate.

The gurus on here swear by it, for their outdoor training.

I've done a longer run of 15km this morning - my second of the week, after 22km on Tuesday. My average today was 6:56 per km, which is good for an old-timer like me.

Conditions were warm with a gentle breeze. I ran along the Trans Pennine Trail from Lymm to Latchford and back, with lots of shade from the trees, keeping the temperature down.

A very nice trip out.

So I'm a member of the bluemoon run club on strava, but I'm not on the leaderboard? Is it because I have my runs set on private? Also when does the week run from/to?

Edit, just changed my runs to public so I'm on there now!

Managed 18 miles this morning but it was tough towards the end. Glad some endurance is coming back though.

Had to have a wild shit and have been left with a very sore arsehole as a reminder.
Fucking lol!
18 miles is the most I've ever ran, but I would love do an ultra run at some point in my life. Never even done a marathon though.

Went out and ran 20 miles yesterday, with admittedly a few stops for water, change of clothes (really hot down here) and a toilet stop.

Decided not to think about the time, but to keep my run no higher than HR zone 3, which I managed bar about 18 minutes.

Have to say it really helped and was running comfortably at the end and could have ran a bit longer. Woke up this morning and the legs feel fine. Will defo follow this strategy again, as I have often returned from shorter runs, feeling a lot worse for only marginal gains in time.

I did the Manchester marathon in 1985 when I was 21, the hardest thing I have ever done, took me months to recover Hence I have never contemplated doing it again.

Couldn‘t run to the end of the street now so running another one isn’t happening.
Three years ago I was 56 years old, 17 stones, and could barely run for a bus. I'm now 13 stones and in training for my first Manchester Marathon. I'm not expecting it to be easy, but I'm determined to do it. You should set yourself small targets.

Anyone ever broken or cracked a rib? Played football a week ago and got an elbow in the ribs and fuck me it hurts. Cant run, god help me when i need to sneeze or cough and just hoping it eases up soon.
