No two players are exactly the same. All those wingers mentioned earlier are different too.

Messi apart from being a winger can be a 10 like Maradona although Diego wasn6a winger.
Ronaldo is not a 10 more a false 9 now he no longer plays on the wing.
For me Torres has more in common with Ronaldo than Messi or Salah.

Strikers make runs in and accross. Alternate between pulling the defender short, go in behind.

Wingers make them in behind. Inside or out, they are going for the fullback.

Inside forwards go for the space between fullback and CB - or drop deeper in between the lines to carry the ball and deliver significant passes into the box.

What is he doing? Whenever you see him? Staying wide. Isolating the defender. Good movement of the wingery sort.

He's good on the outside on the left, deliver crosses. Fine on the inside on the right. Poach in in the area. That is still ...a winger?

He still isolates the opponent and tries to beat him. He's not roving horizontally to pick the ball up in pockets in phases of play - which would make him more of an inside forward / number 10.

He's more of a winger than Salah, for me. Salah is capable of playmaking and dropping deep to get possession.

Less of a false nine than most of those who play there for us or Barca, although that is hard to explain. He's just not involved enough with the midfield in those phases. His use of the body against a defender isn't quite the same as the others. He's very biased towards looking to wriggle free on the other side. And then us the ball. And he doesn't do the off the shoulder runs.

He looks quite like Di Maria, but Di Maria was able to operate as midfielder, central even, because of his dynamism. You could play Di Maria as a striker, but he'd need a proper striker, and it was never really worth it. Di Maria needed to be a winger. They try all the time to make someone fit in. Ferguson tried to make Rooney more of a number 9, and it never happened. He just didn't have it. Ended up as always someone who needed a strike partner.

Same here. He's a winger. He can do more, but it's not really worth persevering with when his talent is that obvious - despite him knowing how to finish. That will enhance his game as a winger.

What I want to see from him, is better short passing. That would mean far more than arsing around in the middle trying to be a striker.

All fine,
but try to remember he is a 21 yr old who has played 24 premier league games.
A great first season, plenty of development, he is vastly underrated by many bluemooners,
And cost 21 million.

He's the spanish Kevin to me.

Recall at Wolfsburg that Kevin became first in assists for them playing RW because of his ridiculous crossing technique.

Pep then switched him into the midfield, false 9 all over centrally because of Kevin's ability to play across the pitch.

I see something similar with Ferran, left, right, center, he offers many strong points across all 3.

So it's difficult to say what his best position is, maybe as a second striker or 10 (like Kevin or Muller), where he can play across throughout a game is MAYBE his best position (if it's even possible to predict such a thing).

Still believe he can be a good winger despite me calling for him to play CF.

What he’s yet to really show yet at City is his passing ability which he has in bucket loads. He really knows how to pick a pass which was what excited me the most when he was moving to City. Hopefully, he gets more chances to perform next season.

Pair Torres with Cancelo on the right and you've got something. Bother players switching positions with each other along with the right sided midfielder to make a fluid attack. Cancelo on the wing, Torres central and vice versa. Defences wouldn't know who's coming and going.

Still developing and learning,i doubt even he knows where his future lies.I suspect next season he will slowly gravitate towards his more permanent position.

I read somewhere he's had 24 G/A in 48 games for club and country this season starting only 30 of them.

I'm not sure he has all the attributes to be a number 9 yet but I think he's probably the most natural finisher at the club now Sergio has left.

Was always going to be a 2nd season kind of thing, lot of players seem to need that first season to settle.
I hope some of our experts don't use that to trash him with, next season if he goes through a rough period, as has happened with a number of transferees.

It should be pretty obvious by now given that some of our greatest players took a season to settle.

And "took a season to settle" has to be put in context too. Torres scored 1 in 3 in his first season at the age of 20/21, mostly from the wing and often from the bench. He's got a long way to go, but that's a fantastic start.
