Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Metrolink seems a waste of time to me. They just don’t seem interested in assisting city at busy times. Why is this? Infrastructure investment maybe costly? Perhaps football crowds are considered quite a lot of hassle in terms of abuse to staff and facilities?

seems much more workable of city buy 50-100 electric buses and ask the council to make smart traffic lights give them 90 per cent right of way to the stadium or back to town. Obviously electric buses don’t come cheap but maybe we lease them back to the tgfm for use at other times.

100 electric buses would cost about £50m!

Drain the Ashton Canal from Etihad to City Centre, put in a people mover or tram type service.

Google Earth it.

You heard it here first Guys;-)

Metrolink got rid of the original Trams not too long ago.

I thought they could have kept a few, refitted as standing room only and used for matches and events. City & Rags.

A few adjustments to the Network such as holding sidings crossovers etc.

There just isn't the will in the hotch potch of a privatised transport system we have.

Aye and be used for one hour on 24-28 match days a year. Get real! That proposal is the economics of the madhouse.
And about 100-120 events per year at the new arena?
I’m sure we could lease at some of these to the council and tfgm for rush hour etc? City do have a fair bit of sway with the council etc.

There's an area near Asda where trams can change line direction but looks as if it would only hold one tram.
They sometimes use that on match days, you can see a couple of trams waiting as you cross over AT way towards the ASDA steps

There's no easy answer. It either costs a fortune - like building a new station on the goods line with all the associated signalling and God knows what, or giving the Metrolink a major upgrade; or it means having a shit ton of spare bus drivers hanging around to do a relatively small number of journeys for a few hours once or twice a fortnight.

I think the cheapest part solution would be a frequent 53X bus shuttling between Queens Road Metrolink, Monsall Metrolink and Ashburys Station - may be going on to Belle Vue. This would cut out a lot of travelling in and out of town, and it would certainly help me. But a complete answer? No.

Probably nothing. but....

The Merc car and Smart car showroom next to the main Etihad Stadium/Campus entrance is now completely empty and closed. Merc went first. Smart has now gone. I wouldn't be surprised if City either buy or have bought the Site

Electric buses would cost peanuts to run to and from Piccadilly train station and/or Piccadilly Gardens.

They would also stop endless black cabs from causing traffic congestion, pollution, etc on Ashton New Road before and after the match. (f*cking black cabs pulling up, leaving their engines running, doing u-turns, cutting each other up in a desperate rush to get as many fares as they can)

There's absolutely no reason why City can't team up with MCC, TFGM, and an electric bus manufacturer/company to buy a fleet of electric buses that can be used on a matchday, subsidized by a minimum £1 fare each way, and advertising on the buses.

Think City bought it last year. A decent chunk of land and prime location.

Of all the options, a significant increase in the number of buses going back into town or a select few destinations is the probably the most cost effective option and the one that would make the biggest impact in the short to medium term. There’s also enough spare land around the stadium to build a dedicated area for the buses if they wanted to avoid just using Ashton New Road. Even if the club have earmarked this land for something 5-10 years down the line, it could still make a big difference in the short term.

Difficult to understand why it hasn’t happened already, although given the seemingly permanent state of chaos surrounding the ticket office, we may be overestimating the ability of the club to organise anything substantive around these sorts of issues.
