But that's a ten year deal - you cant pay them for 8 years when they are not employed... Effectively after 2 years the players wouldn't be able to move clubs they'd be tied to Barca for another 8 years - on shit wages. Barca need to sell Coutinho back to the dippers for half the 1.8 billion they bought him for!

There was nothing stopping them. I think I remember Bartomeu saying there was one On the table. You wouldn’t normally let any player get into the last year without renewing let alone Messi.

No knowledge, just read it somewhere. Think it was Tebas that confirmed it a few weeks ago. Seem to remember PSG tried something similar in deferring either Mbappe's or Neymar's wages and UEFA jumped on it too? Might be making that up though :-)

Doesn't seem to be any rumour or indication from the City side that we've been doing any work on signing him this summer. Quite the contrary situation to last.

At a guess, I'd say City have had enough of being used by Messi as a cudgel to whack money/concessions/Managerial changes out of Barca.

Would have loved to have had him any of the the last half-dozen times he was playing these games. But then it is extremely questionable as to how realistic the possibility of him coming here ever was. Even last year, which in retrospect just seems like anti-Bartomeu politicking.
