Was it a penalty?

Hang on folks... let me check...

Yes it WAS a penalty... just read it was in several different online publications.

JJ
LOL - was what a penalty? There were two very controversial penalty decisions in the match as well as a yellow against Harry Maguire that was total bullshit.

Look - it's going to be a subject of controversy. Yes, I saw the play transpire. Yes, I still think that Kane was fouled - a penalty. No I don't think that the Sterling penalty call was meritted.

Sterling "foul" - not a penalty

It's been a bitch finding the exact Kane foul replay - and indeed I have no replay for you to watch.

However, rewatching YoutubeTV this is the sequence:
Minute 73:19 - Defender against Kane goes to ground. Maybe Kane kicks him - not clear. Doesn't seem to be a foul for me.
Minute 73:21 - Kane is in the box. Clear foul on Kane.

I wish I could show video of this but I cannot - if you can rewatch the game go to the timespots I've posted above and make your own decision.
===
After your pushback, I once again rewatched the game around these controversial decisions to make sure that I wasn't missing something.

After re-review - I stand by my observations.
Kane didn't appear to me to foul prior to the penalty. Video on YoutubeTV wasn't the greatest at all and there's no slow motion replay of this - so I might be wrong.

If however Kane did commit a foul there, why didn't the ref immediately blow his whistle? As Kane had the ball after this incident, there was clearly no advantage accruing to Denmark - and hence, if the ref thought that Kane had fouled, he should have immediately blown. Instead the play progress for at least 2 more seconds during which time Kane is fouled in the box... maybe this is in the realm of reaction time... beats me. Either way, I didn't see a foul by Kane whereas I did see a clear foul on Kane.

For me:

Kane was fouled in the box - clear penalty. And I see nothing to indicate that Kane committed a foul previous to this (again, no slow motion replay available so I might change my mind if such video became available).

Sterling went down after soft contact - not enough for me to award a penalty but not a dive. Maybe this was a makeup call for the above?
===
In the end, say you're right - Kane not a foul, Sterling a foul. Or I'm right - Kane an foul, Sterling not a foul.

Either way a penalty kick would have been awarded.

In the actual game, a penalty kick was awarded. So... controversy aside both you and I agree that England deserved 1 penalty kick - and indeed they got one.

And scored.

I think that England were the better side in this match - and so deserved to advance.
===
Good luck to England in the finals... but I'm from the USA and really like Mancini and Italy. I'll be a fan of the game during this match, not routing for either side.

But the match should be good - and I very much look forward to it.

I read as far as 'Maybe Kane kicks him - not clear.'

That is all I need to know, have a good day fella.

Denmark defender goes to ground impeding Kane's progress - maybe Kane's foot contacts the obstructionist defender - maybe not. Beats me. And maybe the defender isn't obstructionist. I can't find a replay to tell for sure. But in the video feed I see - no foul on Kane. For me, it looks as if the defender is going to ground in an attempt to impede Kane (again, I don't have access to slow motion replay of this - and I could well change my opinion if able to view such footage).

But you're obviously a much better observer than I - able to form spot on decisions in spite of inconclusive video replay evidence - or unwilling to share video footage in support of your claims (whereas I have gone out of my way to post footage/posts in favor of my view).

You're a better man than I Gunga Din - LOL. Have a good day.

Out of curiosity - have you received vaccination against COVID?

yesterday at one point, England had Walker, Stones, Sterling and Foden all playing for England, giving everything for their country.

and you will be supporting Italy on Sunday. deary me.
Won’t be supporting, but telling everyone on here they’re not supporting.

The height of attention seeking!

“LOOK AT ME, I DON’T SUPPORT ENGLAND BECAUSE IT’S A BIT ALTERNATIVE NOT TO SUPPORT ENGLAND AND I WANT TO BE SEEN AS DEAD COOL… LOOK… NO, LOOK AT ME!”

Our only downside last night was our keeper, his kicking and throwing output let him down.

back 4 were great.

Kane although his penalty was poor, his overall play was great.

Yes Pickford seemed to have a bit of a meltdown last night I have no idea why. He has made some vital saves though to help get us this far so I guess he's earned some licence, but we do need a keeper with better distribution going forward

I think social media is skewing the general feeling about the England team. My son went to a pub in Cardiff to watch the game and the whole place was getting behind England. In other years maybe it wouldn't have happened but after the time we have all had with Covid I think people just want something positive to get behind. It helps that none of the team are unlikable in other years the Rooney scream every time he touched the ball made me turn off the tv. I may be getting sentimental as I get older but the thought of Phil, Raheem, Kyle and John playing a big part of winning Englands first trophy in decades makes me happy and lets be honest whats not to like about players like Rice, Saka, Phillips etc. I said before the tournament I thought you could do something, Wales are out so i'm with you all the way. It blows my mind that people on here want Italy to win (unless your Italian of course). Its one more game why not have a kum ba yah moment and get behind them ;)

Let's hope he's got it out of his system now every goalie has a game like that to be fair.

reminded me of Joe Hart in terms of his distribution.

Glad he's got the golden glove for the tournament

Odd, now that I've watched it back fully in the calmness of the day, that some commentators seemed to have this almost even. Denmark played some tidy football, and looked decent till the final thirty yards, but the plain fact is that apart from those eight minutes or so when Grealish was substituted, and England started playing too deep, England dominated this game for the full two hours. Denmark were really playing a containment game. Pickford had one save to make in open play, and that was from a player who was flagged offside, so it wouldn't have counted anyway. (And it was a good strike, but Pickford should have done better on the free kick, actually). Schmeichel pulled off at least four world-class saves to keep his side in the game. And England looked totally in control at the back, never panicked except, on occasions, for Pickford. No really, I was happy for Denmark to get this far, because of the Eriksen factor, but it would have been a travesty if England hadn't gone through.

I am at work driving a van, so excuse me for not supplying video footage of a clear as day incident that normal people who have eyes in their head can clearly see, as several other people have already said.

The clue is looking for Kane's foot booting the defender's calf, that is the muscle on the back of the leg between the ankle and knee, you really don't need slo-mo video clips to see it, maybe having played the game for 30 years helps,

ps, your posting style reminds me of somebody else, City in Washington rings a bell.

Good post.
All anyone could ask of England last night was a solid, professional performance. That's exactly what they delivered.
The Danes were never going to be adventurous, it was always going to be a bit of a battle to avoid them taking the game to penalties.
A job done well. On to the next one.

You fail to post videos in support of your view and continue to attack me without reason on a purely subjective point of view whereas I've stated that I'm open to reassessment of the Kane incident save that there's no slow motion replay of this.

So, I must conclude - WTF?!?!?!?!

You seem to be - sorry to say - a fucking asshole. Unwilling to engage in simple debate - overconfident in your own biased opinion - and unwilling to back said opinion up with evidence in spite of the fact that I've stated numerous times that I'm open to discussion.

Here's a final thought... fuck you!

It's ARSEHOLE not asshole.
