I wouldnt say England were unlucky. After 20 minutes England sat back, invited the Italians on to them and resorted to hoofball. Nothing unlucky about that !

Mancini tweeted his team after 20 minutes and southgate didnt have a clue what to do after that.

England werent unlucky.
Claiming bad luck is totally counterproductive as it suggests England and Southgate are in a good place.
The truth is this team is miles behind what is required to win at a major tournament, not necessarily due to lack of talent but majorly handicapped by gutless management.
I have nothing against Southgate; a very nice and decent man. Just not up to managing a top international outfit and yesterday’s team selection, subs and penalty choices were ample proof of this.
Still, he will keep his job and doubtless lead England into another fruitless World Cup campaign.

You've already tried putting words into my mouth.

Sterling should have took the initiative and demanded he was going to be the 2nd taker, that is the level he is at and its something fans expected to see.
Last two points

You said he wasn't brave enough to take a penalty, the conclusion and opposite of not brave is cowardly, I didn't really have to go far to put those words in your mouth tbh

There was no fan bar yourself expecting or wanting Sterling to step up and take a penalty.

Ok, a third point, going back to earlier about his quality and should be taking penalties and about weakness in his game.

List the players who have missed multiple pens for us and then list them in order of level of talent.

That exercise should really show you what 'level' means when taking a penalty.

ps I fully agree on Southgate, he has had the easiest draws imaginable in two tournaments, a competent tactician would have won one or both of them.

Why do we have to go over the top with everything? The racist abuse is disgusting clearly but trying to counter it by labelling them heroes, praising their tournaments and writing eulogies for them when Sancho and Rashford did absolutely nothing throughout is annoying.

Raheem: "Hey Gareth, you've seen me in training along with Steve Holland and we both know my record is not as good as others in the squad but I insist, in fact I demand I take the 2nd penalty. You also know I I've done it before in a high stakes shootout against Chelsea in a LC final and I deserve it because I've not let you down this tournament. Also it is something the fans expect to see.

Gareth: You know I make the decisions with Steve and you knew the criteria before the game. Aside from that what about your record since the Chelsea shoot out Raheem? What have fans got to do with anything?

Raheem: Well I've scored 1 out of 5 since then but this means more.

Gareth: Fuck off (but phrased politely)

Gareth I'm really shit at penalties, so putting me down for one will reduce our chances of winning, but I demand you put me there so people on the internet are happy.

This is what happens when daft folk and his media chums give him a wrap around during the tournament, they can’t go back on it without looking silly. Not only has the pillock had the luckiest runs in tournaments imaginable but he know gets to be classed as successful and can carry on stinking the place out.

I don't see how people can place blame for the penalties on anyone else but Southgate. It was obviously planned for weeks and to accuse others of not having the balls to take one is wrong but the narrative has already been set so a way has been found to blame Sterling.

Southgate had chances to make sure Saka wasn't put in that situation
1. Take him off for Rashford/Sancho and leave Henderson/Walker on
2. Grealish had offered to take one so he could have replaced Saka
3. Simply tell him NO
Finally its only my opinion but I don't believe for one minute that if it wasn't arranged that Shaw/Sterling/Grealish etc and if he had left them on you can add Walker/Henderson any of them would of taken one instead of him if Saka was unsure.
It was a poor decision because as others have said you cannot replicate the pressure and to give him the fifth pen makes it worse imo.

Yeah, was weird, Kane, the penalty taker, took the easiest one, the first

IMO we have, in Southgate, an honest and grounded man who studies the game diligently, manages people well, understands PR, lives the values, shows leadership against racism, plans thoughtfully and, more often than not, organises teams well.

What we don’t have is a flair manager who could manage a PL side to multiple silverware.

If that were him, he wouldn‘t be doing the England job. He’s good but only up to a point.

For me the scenes outside and inside the ground were as upsetting as the result.
Regrettably hooliganism is alive and kicking with England.
Disgraceful endangering women and children.
Did Hillsboro teach these morons nothing?

Until I miss, at which point I’ll revert to being a cnut. And every City fan will crucify you for allowing me to take one.
