Sterling has taken 9 penalties throughout his career and scored 4.
Not very good is it.....
It's 4 more than Saka. You put a 19 year old kid on in a Euro final to take a must-score penalty that has never taken a penalty in a competitive match? I cannot for the life of me see how that puts him ahead of Sterling.

But your point sort of falls apart when southgate was desperate to get two players on with seconds to go ! Those two took penalties and the only reason they were sub'd on.
They are forward players and Rashford especially has taken pens successfully for the Rags so it was sensible to get him on as I'm sure he would have volunteered

I've always been of the view that a top player is going to get it right at some point and I think he would have been less of a risk than Saka. Kane took one having missed his previous one, it was only luck the rebound came back to him in the semi. Those who want to slate Sterling are going to do it anyway. But that aside, I think there were a lot of players who should have been ahead of Saka.
You need to send Gareth Southgate a tweet, email or letter with this, because I don’t know how many posters have told you, Southgate chose who took the spot kicks last night and not Sterling, and if it had gone into sudden death, Sterling would have taken one, but he wasn’t in the original 5.

And Southgate would have banished him, the best player in the tournamet, to the international wilderness, never to wear an England shirt again!!
Unless he scored and we went on to win.

Thing is, I don't get why this is about Saka v Sterling, there were 5 other players on the pitch who didn't take one.

Raheem 'i am a striker, but i'm a bit shit at penalties,so i'll take the easy option and pass the buck'

If we all decided to not do the things we don't like at work,i'm fairly sure we'd quickly find ourselves unemployed.

He's a senior player,he's 26,he's someone other players and fans look to for inspiration......and yet he isnt capable of taking a penalty?? That isnt acceptable and it doesnt sit right with me.

Unfortunately it seems it's another area of his game that lets him down, and another one that prevents him being top class
This video is doing the rounds and does show Raz and Grealish nod when asked along with everyone else. Tbh I'm not sure what Raheem could possibly do to make you stop this fuckin Vendetta you clearly have against the lad.

Southgate chose, probably chose wrongly but has seen something in Saka to put him forward. I certainly wouldn’t have chosen Sterling to take one though, choices were slim with the people left on the pitch.

But as others have argued, the manager didn't choose them, he ASKED who wanted to take them. I don't know which is true but if that is true he should be telling players who's taking a penalty and who isn't, not asking them if they want to.

Not that slim. For a must-score to keep us in it surely Grealish or somebody ahead of Saka? I don't suppose we'll ever really know. I still don't get why the argument is over penalties, there was a match before all that happened. If Southgate was planning for penalties all along he should be shot at dawn.

Don’t know where your getting your information from, Southgate said on Sky today - he chose who were taking penalties, end of.

They was slim at that point. I’m not saying I’d have had Saka. Grealish doesn’t take pens either, obviously said he’d have one though. He was preparing for pens by his subs so he knew who he wanted up there. He’s not just guessed, something in training surely has prompted him.

Talk of penalties is because that’s how we lost, a lot of the game and the approach has been discussed.

As I've said earlier, I haven't seen ANY news today. I can never figure out why people assume the poster magically knows these things or has read, seen or heard every relevant post, news item or article. All I have seen is other posters saying he asked who wanted to take them, as I've said along the way, I don't know if that's true or not.

If he did that and chose players that weren't too keen to do it, he fucking well is to blame
Exactly. And Saka didn't exactly look up to it to me, he looked scared to death. He might have thought so in training but Southall of all people should know how big match nerves can affect players and having to take a must-score penalty is a million miles away from banging a few in, in training.

As the post above shows, Sterling took a crucial penalty v Chelsea and scored, that's more important than how many he's scored/missed, but I would have still picked one of the other players who had volunteered, e.g. Grealish, ahead of Saka.

He's not that bad - this was in a cup final at Wembley

Scored less than half of what he has took. Missed two at Wolves, dinked one horribly I think over the bar too. I reckon he’s missed his last 3 or 4 easily on the spin. He’s just not very good or consistently good at them. Don’t have to leap to his defence.
