I do sometimes think we need to just cut England managers some slack. For some reason we expect a bunch of non-world class players to win every single tournament and give no credit to the opposition.
He did really well Southgate. Nevertheless, but for a lack of ambition, a willingness to take a risk, the creativity to make the best use of the talent on the pitch and the nouse to adapt as the situation unfolded - England could well have succeeded last night.

How could you not consider the aftermath the 19 Yr old kid would suffer if he were to miss. That alone is a sackable reason. He had 3 days to ponder this. He would've discussed the situation with his coaching team and he still never changed his mind. I hope the kid uses this as motivation to move forward and make a success at Arsenal.

Especially after going through the situation himself years ago. He should never have put this on the shoulders of a kid like Saka

How would you have felt if the twats took your seat and security refused to act, or stood directly in front in the aisles?
Disgusting and embarrassing is the whole situation. Hungary will play there next 2 home games behind closed doors because of the racist and homophobic chants and rightly so but surely England should be with same sentence aswell.

I’m surprised that there’s not more talk about the actual tactical switch where, due to having a huge defensive capability, and the need to get Mount in the team, Sterling was switched to the right.

Our player of the tournament, who has been so effective from the left, is all of a sudden switched to a position that he has had limited impact in.

Cheating fucking axis power pasta eating suit making diving fucking catenaccio bastards.
But enough with the compliments, we must also have some flaws mate.

Anyway about yesterday's game; going by your comments, one thing Englishmen seem to not have grasped yet is that there's no such thing as a team "deserving" to win. If we'd lost on penalties to you guys we wouldn't have deserved to win just because we had more chances, possession or attacking football. You win if you score more goals than the opponent, simple as. We know that very well. There's no consolation prize for "chances not scored". Obviously if you have more of the ball it's more likely that you'll manage to put it in the net, but if you have no striker (us all tournament with Immobile being invisible and an utter disgrace) it surely complicates things. I can tell you yesterday was a very frustrating watch for you and us both, albeit for different reasons. As a side note, it was clear to everyone that you had the best squad of the two.

I'm obviously over the moon for the boys (Chiello in particular) and for Mancio though, and I'm also happy that Chiesa managed to shine and show his character during these games. It's actually funny how quickly I've warmed up to Mancini ever since he's become the NT coach, despite him being a former Inter manager. He's both reserved and very intense.

Regarding Southgate's decisions during the match; just like everyone else I found it odd when he sent on Sancho and Rashford for penalties at the last minute, because young wing-strikers would never be my choice, especially with no game-time in their legs. Apart from that, from an outsider's perspective he's always seemed quite classy and nice throughout the Euros, but he seems still somewhat shaky on game-management decisions. He doesn't look like a very assertive figure. The fact is that he has a squad that's packed full of young talented players and to manage that you have to be very sure of yourself and have very clear roles, hierarchy and gameplan in mind, otherwise it's always going to turn into shaky, "wing it during the match" type of decisions. But that's just my two cents and tbf I know very little about Southgate or the English squad's internal dynamics. Let's say that he fits your team because he's not old; he's eager and somewhat inexperienced so he can grow together with the team, but that didn't necessarily make him the best choice for immediate success of course.

Yeah right weve got this far despite waistcoat not because of him

I don’t agree. He’s made the right decision throughout the tournament, other then the final - which no other manager can say

city get to the first final for 60 years most people wouldn’t be complaining about the manager.

Hate to say it but Southgate is all about the take the knee initiative but didn't take into account the non footballing aspect of his decision to put Saka a young black 19 yr old in the spotlight in such an important moment. I'm suprised none of the coaching team or the players picked up on this.

happens plenty of times at big city matches. United semi final a few years back there was people stood in the aisle and 3/4 people to a seat in places.

I wouldn’t start trying to start fights with them. I’d be an adult and ask them to move

How do you know Saka didn't volunteer?

Maybe he was confident in training. He is 19 years old but has two senior seasons under him and played at all international youth levels.

Donnarumma has a fantastic penalty saving record. Saved about 1 in 3 penalties he has faced. Up there with the best in the business Handanovic (similar ratio but higher amount).

So now we’ve got to hide black players incase they receive racist abuse? How is that helping anything?

You want them to take the knee against racist abuse and discrimination on one hand yet discriminate them in not allowing them to take part in a game because of their skin colour?

Scotland game perhaps too. Not very inspiring was it?

the Scotland game and group games in general aren’t relevant. We just needed to win them and get through.

I’d say the Germany game, Ukraine and Denmark games were inspiring. Depends what you mean by inspiring as well? Do you expect us to play like prime city or batter teams? That’s just not going to happen.

after 55 years of not winning anything I couldn’t care less how we play as long as we win or get far. (I didn’t think we played poor either).

when city were shite I’d have taken any result or style of play to win a trophy. Imagine city had won the Fa cup under Pearce are you saying you’d be sat there upset and annoyed at not playing amazing football? Doubt it

Yeah but it was widely reported that they had been practising penalties in the build up to and during the tournament, so you'd think the squad and management would know who their top penalty takers were.

It's obviously a lot easier behind closed doors than in front of 60,000 with a trophy on the line and all the pressure that comes with that, however, i find it hard to believe that it was a last minute decision and he was put in that position if he was uncomfortable about it.

He looked enormous last night compared to pickford inthe shootout.probably scared the life out of the england players

I thought this was a good move putting Raheem there as i thought he could really test Emerson with his pace, but it didn't really happen. Overall i thought Emerson wasn't tested enough and he had a decent game.

As for Mount, i just don't see what he brings and he didn't have any influence on the game. I thought Grealish, Rashford or Sancho should've been brought on early in the 2nd half when Italy started to take control.
