Danny Ings

And we got our money back. He thrilled us for 3/4 of a season or whatever with goals and assists, so in my book, was a worthwhile signing. A consummate team player who peaked with us.

Ings could do a proper job as a stop gap in the event we can’t get our top target(s) this window. Whilst we exceeded every expectation without a regular striker last year, it would be foolish to bet on the same again.

Would he sign for us on that basis? At a reasonable transfer fee? No idea.
Given the apparent world wide shortage of people who can kick a ball between two sticks on a regular basis, I'd say it all depends on how desperate we are.
The longer this goes on, the more desperate fans get. Whether or not the club is desperate, we can only speculate.
I'd like to think that Txiki is comfortable with whatever he has got lined up for the next few weeks. The only thing I'm reasonably sure of is that he'll end up paying top dollar as usual.
Danny Ings currently seems to be the 'cheapest' option - don't be surprised if Southampton want £60m+ for him, and try not to laugh too much if we pay it.

The closer it gets to the window closing, the more the price will rise. We're in a seller's market.
Better off playing Torres and Delap.
I'd much rather involve those two players more this season than sign Ings but still think a top notch striker is a necessity.

Not too much info leaking out other than the obvious Kane and Grealish stories..desperation then sets in..If City buy DIngo, would be absolutely totally gobsmacked.A dipper reject.Anyone thinking this guy is the answer is deluded.

Highly unlikely, I’d say. I don’t believe we are desperate. If we are in for Ings, I think it would be as a stop-gap. Whilst that would certainly have a significant value, I can’t imagine the club paying anywhere near £60m. That’s way above market for someone of his age, injury history and contract status.

We have no recent track record of panic buying and, personally, I‘m more relaxed than you. The absence of news doesn’t mean nothing is happening.

If we do “over-pay” for anyone, I’d bet on that someone being Kane.

Ings comes in as Kanes back up, and that's if Jesus does want to move on

If Jesus goes and we sign Ings to replace him as a backup to Kane/Haaland I think that's pretty decent business tbf. Ings is a much better finisher than Jesus and I think we're at the stage now where he's been here 4 years or so and still not established himself as the first choice. Best for all parties for him to try it elsewhere.

I agree we just won't buy anyone. Only Pep can make a 4-6-0 work.

Don't get me wrong... I'm very relaxed about it. If we don't sign a top-rate striker, it's because there's none available.
Kane may yet stay, and the whole Haaland situation is little more than a joke with the 'will he, won't he' likely to go on for two seasons knowing how his agent works.
I've got no doubt that City are fully committed to signing Harry Kane and that we will ultimately end up paying pretty much what Levy wants.
If Kane decides to stay with Spurs, so be it, but I suspect that deep down Levy will be unhappy if he does.
If Jesus was half the player some people on here seem to think he is, we wouldn't be anywhere near the market. As it stands, he's dead wood and we only have Torres and Delap to call on.
The only other natural striker seems to be Ings.

Where have all the strikers gone?

To the picket line.

There will be a point where i would just ask Barca if they give Aguero back maybe on loan.

Have to sign someone to replace Sergio he'd get us 10-15 goals + next season go in for Haaland since looks like Levy isn't going to budge. £20m would be sensible business.

Exactly. We need a top quality goalscorer. Not sure why so many people don't rate him. Some of those goals were sensational.
I like him,
But it will look like going shopping with her indoors,
Hoping to buy for five hours then grabbing anything!
I think he will be a perfect fit.

FFP , I know its been relaxed somewhat but we still need to play by the rules more than any other club. Remember it was brought in to stop us.

FFP has not been relaxed. Wish people would stop saying this. It is a false conclusion to articles on early talks that came to nothing other than the reporting period being extended. But with the same limits. That is not a relaxation. It just means you have more time to balance losses, should the covid situation improve. Which it hasn't.
