Well it is part of France. A good question to ask though, is whether it has been treated differently than the Azores and Madeira Islands and mainland Portugal (when cases were high)?

Given it was a shock to him that Dover/Calais was so important to British trade I wouldn't ask our Foreign Secretary anything about anywhere "forrin"

Patel's latest fetish fix exposed

It's another Brexit Bonus, isn't it? We seem to have more people coming to the UK to claim asylum. Is it because we are now extra attractive as "global Britain"? Or because we gave up the EU agreement that we could send people to other EU countries they'd passed through? (Not that that was particularly fair to the EU countries nearest Africa and the Middle East.) So more people are coming now that we can't "send them back".

Nope, we can’t send them back but we can put them in prison.

Tories want to put learning Latin back on the school curriculum.

Talk about living in the past.

I did Latin and it has been useful as there is a lot of it underlying in the English language. It teaches grammar well too. When I took up German, there are a lot of similarities in how sentences are made up etc.

personally I'd say nutrition, cooking and budgeting would be a better use of teachers time

That's the benefits I didn't know of. Explains the Tory on the radio saying the plan is to give children "A feel for the classics" However. We need kids learning the business languages as well. Arabic, mandarin etc.

I've traveled to so called impoverished countries and they are teaching their kids 4 or 5 languages with the idea being they'll be better placed to compete in the world as a economic benefit.

We definitely should encourage learning as many languages as possible.

Always said stuff like this should be taught.

Financial planning would help kids avoid piling debt on on their early adult years. Then again the Tories wouldn't like them to be money savvy. Give them too much credit and be in hoc for life seems to be their plan.

I wasn’t suggesting 5 days of Latin a week! In fact I wasn’t suggesting it should be a priority, merely saying what benefits it has served me.

Seems at the moment that they need to stick to basic literacy, maths and home economics, looking at the state of things.

My ex wife is a polyglot. Talking to her and others they love learning new languages. She tried explaining the building blocks of grammar to me saying that's the key to learning any language.

Also make it fun. When she was teaching she would use TV programs and pop songs playlists in the languages she was teaching.
