Haha. Love you mate. I can’t quite believe that NOW he’s free. After everything we’ve done to try and get him previously. I also think it’s a bit harsh for Pep to be so down on him for not moving last summer. Barto was always going to make it hard.
Come on mate, there's no way we're not making the phone call. I know that Pep's camp and others will be saying no, I get that. But there's no way we leave a player who generated billions of Euros in his time at Barca and is the most popular player in world football ever who we have been chasing for a decade and decide we're not talking to him. That's madness. There's no way we're run that badly because he hurt our feelings.

Not saying we'll get him, but cannot believe we're not in for him. Heavily belief that City and others will brief we're not. But you know as well as I do that Messi is a once in a lifetime player and it would catapult the CFG's commercial interests into the stratosphere, especially with a New York backend. Soriano and Berrada have probably been walking round with a permanent hard on since they found out.

I just cannot see the numbers adding up for him. Just on wage bill alone.
He is a marketing dream. I just don't think we are the best at marketing and self promotion. (Grealish didn't even get a piano FFS!)
Then there is the age thing. No matter how good the player, age catches them all. Ronaldo is an exception due to his complete attention to body and health.

I think it all made sense last year. Now. i just think we have moved on and it would no longer work. Grealish and Kane is the way forward. Yesterdays announcement if just a tantalising distraction to our bright future.

I still think there is a chance he stays there.

Y’know what. When you put it like that. I agree. Let’s see what happens. But let’s also hope that we don’t drop the Kane ball and not get Leo again!

What kind of Messi would we get if we got him? 34, hasn’t changed clubs, countries or cities since he was a teenager, his head and heart elsewhere? He’d come up with a few memorable moments for sure, but is that good enough? And if Pep continued to treat him as a special case who didn’t need to obey instructions what effect would that have on the team’s work ethic? Can’t see it happening.

It isn't football manager we'd need to get rid of players and we ain't just going to give them away.
When it came to Guardiola and again when it comes to Messi, this is like Football Manager. They're the two exceptions to the usual sanity of City.

I think if he's in a remotely realistic price range then we'd sign him first and make the numbers happen second.

I disagree the only dream for the marketing man is NYCFC, Messi would be a cash making machine for them, for MCFC , I am not having it.

Old generation get Messi, do the kids now? I don't think so.

The kids are the ones with the cash, they are the one's this club and marketing people want and hence one of the reasons for signing Grealish.

I would imagine a lot of young ladies have become new City fans following his signing.
It depends what you mean by “marketing”.

Grealish has 3.4m followers on Instagram.

Messi has 242m followers on Instagram.

City’s social media following would likely explode overnight if we signed Messi.

The coverage of the transfer itself would be the number 1 topic on social media worldwide. It would be covered by news organisations around the world.

Sponsorships would go through the roof. Ticket sales and corporate sales would go through the roof.

Grealish is marketable because he’s a good looking lad and seems down to earth.

But Messi is the best player in the history of the sport. And he’s a marketing phenomenon.

There really is no comparison with the immediate marketing impact each would have.

I hope it happens I really do but imo it's 100% not going to happen he'll either renew somehow at Barcelona or join the farmers league.

Regardless of Messi we should still be going all out for Kane. He’s kept his side of the deal by staying away from Spurs, I’d feel very uncomfortable if we fucked him over now and I think it would damage our reputation amongst other players and agents. I believe we operate better than that. Plus we need Kane and he’s younger than Messi.

Thats not to say if we can get both then we shouldn’t try.
