Erling Haaland

Money was the early answer, but having seen the price of Kane now I’m not so sure why.
There's two plausible answers:

1) Pep actually wants Kane more than the others. As in he's seen the other options, and despite what we think, he's decided Kane is the best for him.

2) Haaland is actually way more expensive than we realise.

It's obvious I know, but anything beyond that is going to require a stretch in the reasoning.

Incredibly high signing on fees for himself, his agent and his dad pretty much drives the price up another £50m+. That’s £200m before you’re talking about the wages he’d demand for. The money involved is simply not feasible.

Next year, yes. But we can’t afford to wait around for another year messing around with midfielders playing the false fucking 9.
I get it to a point.
We’re priced out of Haaland cos he’s too expensive at as you say nearer £200m plus wages, but then Kane at £150m plus wages.
If we’re going big, we might as well go that bit bigger and get the younger, quicker more powerful option, the more long term option.
He’ll improve more than Kane will too IMO.
The better fit for me.
Add to that I think Haaland would bring in more sponsorship and fans from around the world than Kane could.
Kane doesn’t make sense to me at all, even if we’re missing out on Haaland.

3) we’re smoking crack ; )

I’d hope it’s more likely a money thing cos option one makes less sense to me, especially long term (beyond Pep)
All my guess work and opinion like everyone else.

I mean, there are valid arguments as to why Kane might be more suited than Haaland.

Well this has been boringly civil!
I try.
I've read it all buddy, just don't agree : )
I have reasons why I disagree, which I won't go into again cos I've said it many times before.
Some agree, some disagree and one or two get slightly upset.
All part of the forum fun.

I can see him at United next season, which is a worrying thought.

#worryingtimes

If we get Kane and Chelsea get Lukaku, I can’t see him going anywhere else but United.

Madrid are set on Mbappe, Barca are skint, Liverpool are skinflints, PSG may have Neymar and Messi and surely they won’t sell to Bayern.

Haaland should be our sole focus.
Forget Kane at £150m plus wages.
if we offered Dortmund £120m right now they would accept IMO.
Makes you wonder if he already knows his next destination and unfortunately it isn’t a city. If he ends up at United I’ll be gutted tbh. I don’t see why he would sign for them on any level but I have a feeling that’s his next club.

No they wouldn't. Absolute delusion. They won't even accept £150m. Chelsea already tried. Dortmund is literally happy to wait till next season. They'd rather get 1 more year out of him. To me if Kane doesn't come this season then Haaland becomes target #1.

Hope you're right if Kane doesn't come. Personally I'd be very underwhelmed with Kane after being linked with Haaland.

Yes I do realise how entitled that sounds!

We wont get him this season. He isn't going to move, he loses his agent fees and other fees. He knows if we pay Dortmund 80 million, he can command whatever fees/salary for himself, his dad and Raiola. I think more than Dortmund, Haaland wants to wait a year. I also think Bayern will be in for him.

Paving the way for this kid to go to United next season is a mistake that will haunt us for awhile. In fact, even though Chelsea made a smarter signing with Lukaku than we will/would with Kane, they too are contributing with that.

Not entitlement! It's a clear understanding that if you've won summat you improve to duplicate what you've won. Buying 'Arry would be standing still. He might score goals for us but I'd wager it wouldn't be as many as he got for Spurs! With 'Aaland you've got several seasons of 'development' and he could reach the stars under Pep. De Bruyne was quite ordinary at CFC, so Moaninho thought(!), improved at Wolfburg, but came on a fuckin' shedload since coming to Beswick, and setting up house in 'Apper'ay! I fancy 'Aaland would be a similar example, although he might want a villa overlooking Boggart Hole Clough.

Reading this thread I’m struggling to understand how Haaland is being portrayed as a better bet than Kane?? Don’t get me wrong I rate Haaland but I can’t help thinking that the fact he’s young and hyped has made people believe he’s the second coming of Fat Ronaldo! He’s unproven in the Prem and at international level, was poor against us in two legs of the Champions League against us last season and the Raiola circus that will accompany him throughout his career is not particularly attractive. Kane would give us 5 or 6 years of world class centre forward play. He would be our Lewandowski. He’s never relied on pure pace to score his goals and his injury record is good despite what people seem to think! Am I missing something??

Haaland will be unbelievable but Kane is a more complete player and probably a better fit for the way we play. Haaland though will improve a lot in the coming years.

It’s an imperfect storm. Haaland to rags now seems inevitable.

There is a very good chance that next summer we will be debating whether Haaland will overtake Lukaku, not Kane, as the best PL striker
