Climate Change is here and man made

Human greed and selfishness are part of human nature. We've been behaviourly modern, i.e. exhibiting greed and selfishness and all our other good and bad characteristics for about 80,000 years. Hasn't stopped us moving from the Afrcan savannah to the amazing position we find ourselves in now.

Population growth is predicted to peak sometime this century and the story has now switched to the 'catastrophe' that is population decline. One of the main reasons we can now feed 7.8 billion people and will easily be OK with 10 billion is human innovation. Fixing nitrogen out of the air (Bosch Haber process) allows us to fertilise the soil when the doomsayers predicted we would starve.
Am I right in thinking that process produces vast amount of CO2 and requires a lot of energy?

I think most people have a go at her parents and teachers for frightening the shit out of an autistic girl for no good reason.

Climate change is a problem but it isn't an existential problem and it's not even the biggest problem currently facing mankind.

Human ingenuity and innovation will provide the solutions; we'll be fine.

Close the thread and relax. I'm genuinely more worried about making a slow start in the Premier League.

Two points

Her name gets mentioned a lot by the dickheads the parents hardly get a mention

Don't post in the thread if its of less importance than a ball being kicked around a piece of grass

Capitalism has delivered the wonderful world we live in. Recent example is the vaccination success and the tablet/laptop/smartphone your typing on.

It differs from all other isms in that it wasn't thought up by some academic or philosopher or despot who decided 'this is how the world should be run'.

Capitalism is what happens when people are free to make their own choices in a liberal (that's truly liberal) environment supported by strong institutions and a respect for the rule of law.
Ah yeah nail on head, some capitalist wanker who cannot see the vast flaws and inequalities it creates every day and obsesses over 'innovation'.

It's real great that 1% of the worlds population control roughly 44% of the worlds wealth isnt it? Gotta love that lush capitalism at work!

I do not disagree that we are well served by raising the living standards of the worlds poorest, no doubt about that.

But you still seem to be living in some sort of fantastical dreamland where everything plays out perectly and we actually make 'good decisions'.

There are tough times ahead, I am optimistic - but to simply assume things are going to play out as you say is naive.
I'm not blindly assuming we'll be OK because I refuse to entertain any negative thoughts or because I'm just a wildly optimist. There's a whole school of thought that underpins my optimism. (Read Matt Ridley, Johan Norberg, Hans Rausling, Steven Pinker, etc).

The doomsday scenario proponents will always make the headlines. Being a catastrophist confers a certain gravitas. But the evidence supports my optimism.

The climate change opinions of the main stream media today will come to be seen as absurd to us in years to come. Hope Greta has the decency to admit she was wrong and maybe apologise for all the anxiety she caused.

Nah I've got a strong feeling people will probably be apologising to her in years to come and she will be looked back on as a catalyst for young people. But thats just me.

He's sent you about 5 articles that explain the points you're making are nonsense. You're wrong. Stop denying the situation we're in.

In the last few years, we've seen an increase in both the intensity and frequency of: wildfires, flooding, droughts, famine. The sea levels are continuing to rise. Eco-systems are being obliterated at the fastest rate in history (de-forestation, ice sheets etc). Our oceans are being over-fished to the point that where it's likely we're no longer have fish in the ocean within 100 years. The use of pesticides and fertilisers in farming worldwide is likely to lead to mass crop failure within the next 100 years.

You said in one of your posts that you don't like legislation that makes the rich richer and the poor poorer. Well, who do you think suffers the most from climate change? It isn't Jeff Bezos and his rocket ship, that's for certain!

You continue doing you. Deny, deny and deny some more. Pretend there's nothing happening. You live in a first world country and won't suffer the worst consequences of climate change. But don't try and preach your fake news to others like it's fact. You're nothing more than a wind up merchant with a keyboard.

He would rather focus on everyone hating Harry and Meghan than facing up to the reality of climate change (LOL)

Capitalism is responsible for human prosperity and progress. It enriches lives.

Socialism? Marxism? Communism? Fascism? Militarism? Authoritarianism? Not so much.

It's possible for a system to be responsible for properity and also completely fucked outcomes as well.

But I wouldn't expect you to understand that.

Capitalism and the system we are currently in needs overhauling and quickly.

The extremes of Capitalism need addressing and liberal democracy and reasoned debate are the best way forward in that respect.

Capitalism in itself just doesn't work going forward, we live on a planet with finite resources and it demands infinite growth to succeed. It's coming to an end, quickly.

The major corporations are moving themselves outside the pernicious levelling down of liberal democracy and taking governments vulnerable to it over.

Guys we need to get off the forum right now as the whole cloud / Internet is destroying the planet.

Don't have a shower or use an electric toothbrush. Don't watch telly or read for a while. Just turn off the lights and go straight to bed. Otherwise you're part of the problem not the solution.

And cheer the fuck up. Greta couldn't find her own arse with both hands even if she cheated by turning the light on.

bahahahaha

These are just such idiotic tropes that you lot refer back to, in order to try and 'invalidate' claims. Let me introduce you to the following:
