We will probably be willing let him go for virtually nothing next summer, it just depends if he's willing to take a pay cut because no one is paying him what he's currently on here. Either that or we let his contract run down but he's still got two more years left.
Think we are better off paying him out of his contract, to get him away from the club.

Ake is solid, he needs to stay especially if Sandler is going out on loan. He can cover for centre back and left back and has a useful scoring record from corners etc. Mendy won’t go this summer, I am sure of that, because of Covid few clubs have the finances. Maybe City will agree to loan him, but to what end? We will end up paying some of his salary and he isn’t a complete liability, just not as good as we hoped, and he is apparently well-liked in the dressing room. That can be important.

I disagree... he is a complete liability... and I just can't believe how many chances he keeps getting to prove that he is

Not sure he is a ‘complete liability’. Not actually sure how many chances he’s had either cos he’s been unlucky with injuries.
He hasn’t had a great last two matches that’s for sure. He gave away the pen at Wembley and I admit that he and Mendy terrified me yesterday. Saying that I don’t think Dias was his normal commanding self either.

He’ll come good with time and confidence. He was injured a lot last season so was unlucky. I’d still be keeping hold of Laporte though.

Ake is a complete championship level player we thought would be good enough for the club, every game he plays the opponents attack from his side obviously having Mendy doesn't help. But still a glaring level or two down from Stones. Should get binned the moment Laporte or Stones get match fitness. Hopefully be gone next summer for the good of the club. Him, Mendy, Cancelo and Torres should really go, them 4 are always recipe for a loss. Torres specifically is absolutely gutless.

I was talking about Mendy being a complete liability

Ake isn't... he's simply not good enough

Honestly don’t know how Ake can take blame for anything yesterday.
You call him championship level.
What I see is a player with proper defensive instincts.
He played well yesterday being positioned correctly and not diving in guiding Mendy’s man that had just beaten him for the umpteenth time away from goal, holding him up until we got our defensive shape.
The problem down our left wasn’t coming from him. And he was winning plenty in the air from their crosses.

He’s a solid squad player that can cover left back with Zinchenko or a CB position when required. I’d keep him.

Our problems yesterday were evident up front. We should have been a goal up or two in the first 15 minutes, but we have nothing of any real threat up there.

Grealish was by no means the creative replacement we need since Silva leaving, but what he did show was that it makes a big difference if our ball retention in the final third is better. He doesn’t lose the ball and draws fouls. Sterling on the other hand gets turned over as often as Mendy. That was our undoing.
Ake wasn’t the problem yesterday.
That wasn’t evident from what I watched.

His defending for the goal was very poor. Allowed son to make space for the shot far too easily

Chuck in his complete balls-up last week, that's two goals in two matches mainly down to his poor defending or mistakes

Must be on his way, along with Laporte.

If we get Kane as well as Grealish then that’s an superb window. We still need to solve LB long term and CDM, but assume that’s for the future, can’t have it all despite any fees received - time to see if Rodri will mature into the role or EDS promotion.

Thought yesterday the problem was shape and unfamiliarity, still can’t work out Gundos position yesterday. Fern knackered because of the recovery runs after Mendy lost the ball, but with Sterling and Grealish on the left there should’ve been some protection. Time and training sessions will sort that. Ake is a back up player. But add KDB, Zin, Stones and Walker & the speed and dynamic changes. And that’s a reason not to flap and panic. We are a fucking good team.

But having a proper centre forward transforms yesterday - space, positioning would all be different and then less pressure on the CM area. Thought the team knew they had to score the first goal, but like against Chelsea and got ragged when it didn’t happen. Think Fern is a dressing room rather than on the pitch captain.

So got to get the deal sorted for Kane.and if we get a combined 90m for Bernardo and Laporte and get their wages off the sheet then that’s good business.
Getting rid of Laporte would be a disaster. Imagine an injury to Dias or Stones. It wouldn’t want to be relying on Ake personally.

Bollocks. He was left isolated one on one with a truly two footed player. Where was Mendy for that goal??
What was Dias doing moving his leg out the way?

He made a big mistake at Wembley but up until that point he'd been one of our best performers.

Think of it this way. Aké has played 2 games (alongside Mendy - a genuine liability) against 2 of the best teams in the country and conceded 2 goals. It's not Aké's fault we haven't scored a single goal.

Might be a little too negative right now, but what the hell has Txiki & Omar been doing the last 6 months since it was clear Agüero was leaving? 2 games in to the new season and still no replacement. Grealish had a release clause but we still waited until hours before our first game to sign him instead of doing it weeks/months ago. Apparently several first teamers wants to move and with 2 weeks left of the window they are all still here.
Have our whole recruitment team been on vacation all year or whats their excuse to why they cant manage to sort at least most of this out before the season starts when they had half a year to do so? Acting slow may have already cost us a trophy in CS (even if its not a ”real” one) and a league game. Even if we get Kane before the deadline ends, it may take a few weeks before he learns how to play in our system. The difference between having it done early and late could be finishing 1st or 4th.
On top of all this we are letting half of our squad return so late from holiday they are not even match fit when the season starts.

Does our management think we will win the league with 10-20 points every year so we can afford to throw away some games in the beginning? I've always thought the club have been acting like the benchmark of how professional a club should be run, but this summer I get more of the feeling we are acting like amateurs.
We could still end up winning everything, but why are we giving our rivals a head start?

I never said Ake was a liability. I said Mendy was, so I agree with you on that point

I just don't think Ake is anywhere near the standard required

Although I'd keep him as 4th choice centre back for emergencies and cup games

Maybe we are run by idiots, let me just check our last 12 years. No it's okay we aren't.

You are right, only an idiot would have most of their transfer business done before the transfer deadline or make sure the team is ready when the season starts.

Like I said, I think the management have acted like the benchmark of how to run a club previous years. I simply dont think they have reached that high standard they had set for themselves this year.
