Afghanistan

Did he really have VIP treatment?

He has provided his own transport and chartered his own plane. There aren't any logistical difficulties of trying to get him through checkpoints whilst trying to evade Taliban inspectors with a kill list.

Was also turned away previously.

Is it not just a case that MOD are claiming maximum credit for something they had minimal input in assisting.

Doesn't deflect from the shambles of the formal procedures as exemplified by the case covered on yesterday's newsnight.

I think when the MoD is putting out the message that exercise was on the instruction of the Defence Sec., they are making it known it was not their decision. You seriously think in all the chaos, the MoD had saving dogs and cats at the top of their ‘to do’ list?

As for Fathing you would think he could find room for the staff who helped him, but no they were left to their fate. Yeah, thanks, mate.

Boris has said he will ‘move heaven and earth’ to get them out. Is this the same as ‘world beating!? If so then they have no chance.
If we wanted to get them out then we wouldn’t have fucked off in the first place.

Quite obvious now that we just didn’t want to bring more refugees in, I’m now wondering what the populous think of that?

Pen the animal charity guy is not getting out , the taliban wont let him and his staff through , a white british ex uk marine wont stand a chance
Following closely and if he doesn’t get out there should be massive repercussions from our own.

Remember, never leave one of our own behind.

Of course they didn't have "operation ark" at the top of their priorities, and nor should they have. But there have been shortcomings in how they have responded to getting Afghans out through official channels, watch the newsnight piece I referenced earlier.

It’s not entirely his decision if the Taliban enforce a policy that prevents his staff from getting through checkpoints or the Americans don't let them travel without papers, or their papers were valid only for the rules to change at last minute.

Doesn't come across well in that interview script but then I think everyone would have mixed emotions (some of relief) in that situation.

Strange situation evacuating animals from a conflict zone anyway. I suppose that the sanctuary would be unviable and unmanageable without donations and changing situation on the ground , but he could have arranged rehoming and humane euthanasia rather than airlift them.

The situation of the pets was of great concern to the British public so Johnson (or his wife) instructed they be given priority over actual people. In short, saving cats and dogs polls better than saving Afghan staff and their families.

Anyway, in other news Taliban want the US to maintain a diplomatic presence after 31st August. To maintain a grip on the country, or at least a large part of it, they need assistance and I can see a scenario where the US works with the Taliban going forward.

Looking at the options going forward it’s the only viable one. Isolate them and you are going to have a pile in of terrorist groups in the country.

It was paperwork not room that meant the staff couldn't fly out. Tha animals were in the hold not on seats it was not an either or situation.

As I said it was not an either or, the ambulance came for your mother and while it was there put my dog in the boot.

It is an either/or situation. Every minute, every resource to save or expedite an animal in a fast moving and chaotic situation like this, is time and resource not used to save or expedite a person.

The animals got more priority than the staff looking after them.

The staff did not meet the criteria to travel
