Movie Discussion Thread | Upcoming Releases etc..

I've been going through some classic movies recently and watched 12 Angry Men with Henry Fonda. Really enjoyed it, was wondering if anybody has got any recommendations along the same lines.

That was quite a unique film, really. Genre-wise, in that era, that's quite rare.

Can only think of the classic "To Kill a Mocking Bird" as something as near.

Is your question related to era, style or genre from any age?

Era mainly but I do enjoy legal dramas if they're courtroom focused such as Philadelphia and the like. Though the cinematography of Philadelphia made me a bit uncomfortable with all of the full close ups.

Okay, so we're talking late 50s/ early 60s...

The only memorable ones for me are "Moby Dick" (by far the best version) and "The Incredible Shrinking Man" which is an AMAZING film never remade, as far as I know (as a serious film I should add). The scope and the thought behind that film was way ahead of it's time.

An all star male cast, yelling and arguing with each other, with the majority of the film based in one location?

Glengarry Glen Ross (1992)

A story of a crime mystery recalled from various viewpoints exploring the philosophy of justice and humanity?

Rashomon (1950)

A commanding officer in the 1st World War volunteers to defend his men against charges of cowardice.

Paths of Glory (1957)

"Pig" is fantastic in a very strange way.

Just don't try and box it into any genre.

My hunch is this is going to be "What if Neo took the other pill".

Nah it has to be greater than that. The sequels are deep,DEEP philosophical movies. Probably the biggest complaint about them is just how complex they are. So I have 2 theories...

1: they have another deep storyline to tell and it has taken them many years to come up with a good script that gets their points across without seeming to complex

2: they need a payday so are recycling what they did before, doing a "Force Awakens" basically

I hope to God it is the former
