Etihad Atmosphere - 2021/22

I disagree, it is not nonsene, Pep politely asked fans to come to the game on Saturday, fill the stadium with noise, then a group of posters were convinced he was criticising them, creating a whole new narrative while overblown reactions now providiing a source hilarity for our detractors. Pep isn't what they are laughing at, reactions to his post is,
Agreed, blown way out of proportion.

Just watched Parker's interview on Sky.

Very disappointed.

He's fell for their wummery hook line and sinker and allowed himself / us to be drawn in to their smear campaign.

He's also referred to the scum and dippers a few times. Their fans will fucking love that.

Should have just told them to fuck off and not spoke to them.

Him speaking to them legitimises something that doesn't actually exist.

I can understand that view. On reflection you are probably right. He did try to stick to the question he responded to, Which was the attendance tomorrow, Which he said would be full, and he was correct.

Where he was as naive as pep is that the media will try to distort it ,to make it a wider issue, and as i said in my original post, it seems people fall for the trap door all the time, and do not seem to grasp the aim of the person interviewing them.

I honestly don't think he is doing it on purpose.

The media know he isn't the best when it comes to listening/speaking in English.
Ok not sure I believe that, but if true, don't send him out to face the press.

Mancini had issues and could get very tetchy, in those cases the club sent out someone different to face the press.

Pep is not stupid, not for one second do I think he was unaware what he was saying.

Nonsense.

Pep's words have played straight into the hands of our detractors/rivals and backed up their claims we have poor support and can't fill our own stadium.

He got this badly wrong.
Agreed. However the reaction from our fans (including me on this forum) has given the story legs. There has been a concerted negative PR campaign against our club by some of our rivals. Officials from LFC and MUFC have been dripping poison about us for years to their pals in the media, and now Neil Ashton is on board at MUFC this will get worse. Their strategy is to damage City as much as possible and driving a wedge between our club and our fans will help them achieve their aim.
The hierarchy at City and Pep know this full well and that's what makes it especially frustrating when Pep scores another "own goal." I think Pep was just trying to produce a rallying call. He did not criticise the fans directly. But he didn't praise us either or make any refeferences to how difficult it is these days for our mostly working class fanbase. What pisses me off is the club (and apparently Pep) just don't get it.

He paid the charity/organisation to wear it, that’s not virtue signalling that’s standing by his beliefs as he did with the Catalan independence yellow ribbon. Do you think people who wear Macmillan nurse badges or men’s prostate cancer awareness symbols on TV to be virtue signalling as well?
I dont believe in promoting illegal migration or politics in football

I'm meaning more they can play on what he is saying more.

Like i truly believe he hasn't just gone out there to slate fans, he's meant one thing and its come out differently.

Either way I See Sky Sports have run with it now that the fans are un happy.

Pep is a total genius. Cup Final atmosphere for what was a routine game now ensured.

Pull the tigers tail and see wgat happens.
Southampton would have been full anyway.

His words will have no effect other than to embarrassed the club he manages.

Expect versions of "Fergies right your fans are shite" from opposing fans for years to come.

You're mistaking genius for idiotic, ill thought out, undiplomatic and counter productive.

The key point in all of this is that just as he defends his players in public while being brutally honest with them in private, he needs to extend the same logic to the fan base. If he wants to concern himself with this he could start by trying to understand the reasons we sometimes struggle to sell out and use his considerable influence to address the issues.

Better still he could stay out of issues that are not his concern and concentrate on not winning the Champions League. Again.

All this is giving the media more ammo against us.
This could have been a throw away comment by pep we won't know until today. But with people giving interviews to the media makes it a long running saga now.
It overshadowed what was a great win on Wednesday. It will be the main topic in the press conference this afternoon. All the papers will be on the tickets website counting available seats up to kick off. Red pens will be out circling empty seats during the game. (We all know there will be a few dotted about )
Match reports will mention this after the game and we have league Cup game mid week which is only going to be 20 -30 k
So a week long running saga

Great post, spot on.

Our reaction,as a fan base,is justifiable though.Pep,while having good intention, was wrong to even mention it given its been a source of entertainment and pisstaking for our rivals since we moved to this stadium.

Surely he isn't that ignorant,or lacking awareness, where this very touchy issue is concerned.Any previous good work to dispel such a myth has been destroyed with a very naive 20 second comment.

The brainfarts continue.

The modern World and, in particular, Social Media is more bothered by who is popular rather than who is right.

Facts aren’t important if 2 million people insist the World is flat and you are the only one that says it isn’t.

If you stop trying to push the tide back, accept you can’t change it and have a swim instead, you will feel better.

The fans have every right to be unhappy.

His comments were unnecessary and in my opinion completely unjustified.

You answered your own point there. The most important line in your post is that when you present them with the facts they don’t listen.

Why do you think that is? It’s because they don’t care about the truth. Do we care when we say United have no fans in Manchester and they dispute it?

It doesn’t matter.
True, and that bolded bit is one of the reasons why I'll accept match-going United fans having a pop at us on this topic.

Twitter's the worst - it's a cesspool of dickheads who don't know what they're talking about but if I want to call them cunts, I will. They usually go quiet when I come out with my favourite line of offering to discuss it further and offering to meet them for a pint when we play them at their ground. Most of them shit themselves then.
