The Conservative Party

I wish I knew what ‘levelling up’ actually meant. How will we know if we have been ‘levelled up’?

Boston has been given £25m and it is to be spent on a walkway From the railway station (which nobody uses) into town. Our town has many, many empty shops (a quick count last week - we had 12 empty shops in 75m along Strait Bargate) and yet this new ‘walkway’ will include a row of shops. Yet our A & E is the same size it was 20 years ago and they have closed the A & E at Grantham, Skegness and Spalding added to which there has been a huge increase in the population over the last 20 years. So what will this £25m do for us?
Aqueducts? Sanitation? Roads?

Did I read somewhere that the EU countries were not seeing the same huge price rises that we are? They are making a lot of noise about the lack of CO2 again the EU are not having the same problem. Perhaps one of our EU supporters can give us first hand info.

EU has problems we have crises.

Yep - our increase is 4 x that of the EU 27..... a Brexit benefit

dont usually venture in here but my take on the gas crisis;

yes there are increased demands in Asia right now, i would say that is more to do with the current replacement of coal going on out there, not as much to do with increased demand after covid (although that is a smaller factor, which shouldnt be a long term issue at all).

In the UK, a large share of our power generation comes from natural gas (40 to 50% depending), which is higher than all of the EU countries. Only Italy really comes close on about 35% (other high price country right now). This is probably not a sensible dependency level.

Importantly, the UK has a very very small gas reserve, perhaps only a few days for some gases (methane, CO2) and a little to no long term natural gas storage (big north sea reserve was shut a few years ago when it also stopped producing)

Yes we've had a much less windy summer effecting wind power gen and increasing pressure on other fuels.

Not being in a larger trade bloc does give the UK less protection from volatile prices (probably).

finally, there is always the slightly conspiratorial reason that Moscow purposefully throttled gas supply, traditionally made over the summer to Europe, to force through the opening of NordStream 2, which hasnt happened

Good people doing good things who are about to get busier as the £20 uplift is removed. In the 5th or 6th biggest economy on the planet why do we tolerate the need for this whilst this lot bung their mates fat juicy contracts?

However they are starting to feel some heat. Hancock is about to find out how really alone he is

Dorries as Culture/Media sounds like it could a barrel of laughs, if it happens.

Cold War Steve on Dorries and the call for distinctively British content on TV.
