One of the reasons that women's boxing got the go-ahead in the Olympics was because the standard achieved by women boxers (and Katie Taylor in particular - she was actually specifically mentioned in the report to the OCI) was deemed too high to ignore.
Her skill level is therefore undoubted. She has earned the right to be compared with anyone.

She actually changed the sport of boxing and the way people, expert and non-expert alike, view it.
Very few athletes can say that.
Now, if you didn't like the Sugar Ray comparison you won't like this one but there you go, sport is all about opinions:

In fact, by opening it up to half of the world's population, she has probably had the greatest impact on the sport of boxing since Ali... if not greater.
It was Taylor who made the Americans (in particular) sit up and take notice. Whatever you're in about, that's the fact of the matter.

As for keeping perspective:
You're not the only one in this conversation who has spent time in the ring/ gym.
You're only speaking to your own experience but posing it as fact.
You're allowing your biases to colour your considerations. Now don't get me wrong on this, your opinion of the IOC is possibly (probably, even) very accurate but with regard to what I said it's also wholly irrelevant. The IOC were threatening to cut boxing out of the Olympics altogether, if you remember. Instead, they expanded the event to include women. Whatever way you look at it - however erroneously you belittle her abilities (come on you must know it's chauvinistic nonsense to suggest (probably) the best female boxer in the world is a provincial level talent) - it was Taylor's ability that was cited and ultimately instrumental in changing the sport. Her ability was proposed and endorsed as indisputable - by experienced people within the sport.. Admittedly, they probably didn't train at your gym but their opinions might be worth regarding all the same.
Credit where it's due.

Anyway, back on topic: Come on City. :-)

Garth Crooks is a clueless twat watch continues...

"I've often thought you can cause City problems, especially on the counter-attack, but the combination of Aymeric Laporte and Ruben Dias looked quite impregnable against Chelsea.

I know both players are comfortable on the ball but I have never been totally convinced about either player's ability to cope with the physical aspects of the Premier League."

Best defence in the league and what on earth in thr past 13 months has made Crooks think for one second that Dias couldn't cope with anything in premier league?? Stealing a fucking living.

Micah ….. “Manchester Utd are the biggest club in the world”
Though he does try to be too likeable most of the time I really do think he sees through this bullshit and is adding to the myth. All this biggest in the world crap just adds pressure to them as all the biased clowns in the media blow smoke up their arse based on this clear fallacy. It totally works against them eventually and maybe he's see's that. He also regularly calls fairly good players from these teams world class as well but whenever he talks about City I see a real glint in his eye that tells me he loves City just as much as us. I'd rather have him than yet another ex red shirt who played for the club for a year and acts as if he spent his entire career there.

Thing is I'm not arsed if they are, so fuckin what they're still shit at football.

Biggest doesn't mean best!

IMHO a pre-requisite to being the "biggest football club in the world" is to at least be able to win the domestic league on a reasonably regular basis. That hasn't happened to that lot for quite some time. Keep selling shirts in Singapore & Beijing etc and City will keep picking up the trophies.
I don't give a shit if we're not the biggest in the world. Who cares anyway ?

Back in the nineties Sky wanted to buy the rags I was very much in favour as I thought it could lead to the ruination of both. Think the FA stepped in to stop it but they still have an unhealthily close relationship.
Government referred it to the competitions committee who banned the proposed takeover - though United fans tried to claim it as a victory for their ordinary supporters winning against the might of Murdoch's empire. Deluded lot and remain so to this day. Sky's bias for United (and Liverpool) stems from knowing the value of their fan base across the globe and keeping them all onboard with positive spin as often as possible - regardless of trophies won.

I want to win but I also don't want City to be playing in front of small crowds.

We are one of the best supported clubs in England but a fanbase is built over generations not over 5-10 years. We also get the most corrosive coverage in the media and that has to have an effect. it has a good effect, and a bad effect.

Every now and again there are students who come on here with surveys about whether you buy a shirt etc but there's probably room for some research into the how foreign ownership has impacted on football, and particularly the relationship between owners, media and fans. Manchester City fans are a social experiment. Vilified as simpletons by simpletons. You are X, and you must think like this.

Kids don't read newspapers or go for their news from online news outlets
They pick up their stuff from amature blogs and the playground
If City continues to be successful our next generations of blues is secure
