Will those 5,000 visas be filled by HGV drivers or will Mr Martin slime in and take advantage if they aren’t?

There is a well known shortage of said in the EU so if you are an HGV driver in the EU you are more than likely to have a job and are going to be very busy in the run up to Christmas. Very unlikely to come from there; besides very few have passports as they travel mostly on ID cards.

Perhaps they will come from South America, India and Africa where wages are low and we can pay them 10 times as much as they get at home but way less than we have to pay our drivers! Shirley not!

Not seen it, but I would guess he’s referring to the well established correlation between higher income and better life outcomes across all measures. For example this from a US academic paper. If you put money I peoples’ pockets then everything else looks after itself.
