Old fuckers sitting at home, tell younger folk how they should be working. You’re retired, shut the fuck up.
And prop up failed private businesses with public money.Tories believe in a free market? Only if you restrict the labour market.
And legislate against unions.
And let in foreign produce rather than foreign labour.
Not exactly laissez-faire, is it?
And prop up failed private businesses with public money.
And subsidising Japanese car companies with public money. And prop up failed private businesses with public money.
It’s the most left-wing, right-wing government I can remember…Really loved Kwartengs shallow analysis of the situation with energy suppliers failing earlier - the reward for poor management should not be public money bailing them out ( agreed ) but the Govt role is to ensure the market is competitive. Not sure how you do that when you are down to one remaining supplier though.....

That's pretty unimpressive.
Old people in favour of what they know of the world of work.
The present wholesale price hikes and the retail price cap mean every energy company will be selling energy to customers at less than it costs to buy it. We'll end up with one nationalised British Gas - unless of course the Tories intend to subsidise a loss-making British Gas to the extent of paying dividends even if not a going concern.Really loved Kwartengs shallow analysis of the situation with energy suppliers failing earlier - the reward for poor management should not be public money bailing them out ( agreed ) but the Govt role is to ensure the market is competitive. It’s the last tool in the brexiteers’ bag, and potentially a dangerous one.Anyway, as the thread is technically about political relations with the EU, I think we can all agree that they are bad, as in the deep freeze. Paris and Berlin have both lost confidence in the UK, deeming us untrustworthy and unreliable. This will not get better under the new German leadership (I’m presuming Scholz). Macron is up for re-election, so a spot of ‘Brit-bashing’ is inevitable.
Dublin is also unimpressed and as Sinn Fein have a big lead in the polls, I don’t see that improving much either.
One thing I have noticed is that the ‘love Europe, hate EU‘ mantra has disappeared. Now its ‘hate Europe’, and publish security and trade reviews that don't mention any European country whatsoever. A fucking bizarre state of affairs and totally on-brand for the UK Govt and it’s barely sentient supporters.
Interestingly, the anti-EU movements in the respective countries have apparently all pretty much died a death and most "leave the EU" policies that fringe parties offered have been shelved. The EU are quite happy with the outcome of the ‘deal’. Why should they move. I hear nothing of significance from Jack Frost. All he ever says is words to the effect ‘the EU must change its stance‘ but gives absolutely no indication of which areas they should move in nor any solutions himself. The EU will be quite happy for the Brits to give them a ‘hard’ time as there is absolutely nothing we can do that will ‘hurt’ the EU. They have always known that the ‘they need us more than we need them’ was garbage and I have absolutely no doubt that the peoples of the EU will be fully behind their relative governments.
