Having said all that the Saudi regime is vile and they have people they don’t agree with murdered.

We take their money nonetheless, and why?

Because ethical capitalism and ethical consumers for that matter, with a moral purpose and a higher calling than mere tawdry consumerism, is a fairy tale construction of the soft left, just as compassionate capitalism is a vacuous nonsense from the soft right.

When I go to buy a 99 at an ice cream van, I don't question the bloke selling it whether he's kind to children and animals, or whether he's ever stolen from a little old lady, that's not the nature of my relationship with him. Does he sell me a delicious ice cream at a fair price, does he put a flake in it and does he give me the right change, that's what matters.

I don't like the cut of Jeff Bozo's jib, but he has some cracking offers on bourbon and I'm sure Swales was a lovely fella but he was a crap chairman.

In a world where we wander around buffeted by forces beyond our control, we set even more store by people and things that do what they say on the tin.

Our owners have delivered on their promises, they are excellent custodians of this club, that is the nature of my relationship with them, they run a club here and they adhere to our laws and cultural norms while they're doing it. If that's what PIF does at Newcastle, then the Toon Army are in for a ride, if they fuck up, it won't be because their money comes from Saudi Arabia, it'll be because they made bad decisions and they should be criticised accordingly.

End of story

It would not come cheap but it's a cash cow however much we like to pretend.

The Saudis could have bought them, new stadium etc and still made a fortune, it's a huge positive that they did not.

The Glazier are milking them and as long as they do, it will be difficult for them to compete, especially with Olie at the wheel.
Oh, I agree, but even if they had bought the Rags, it wouldn't mean they're overtaking City straight away, they've spent plenty and it ain't happened as yet. Whereas Newcastle, a bottom club can be a great long term prospect, and the fairytale aspect of it is appealing.
That's if the poor fuckers don't go down ;)

She is out in the media parroting on because it takes the light away from the actual backers. The key headlines I have seen from the reports are how shes going to move the Shearer statue and welcome back Keegan. Its all a load of PR nonsense to get the fans onside and fair play to them, its going to work.

Newcastle fans are going to town (literally) to celebrate.

I have argued for years on here that if Khaldoon or Sheikh Mansour really gave a fuck about this so called bad press, they would have put a stop to it. They haven't because we have better things to be doing like winning trophies, getting huge sponsorships and pushing our revenue past all of our competitors. If the bad press was bad as people think and not just some ex rags and dippers and some bent reporters parroting information from backhanders then they would be hiring the best PR in the world, sending out legal challenges and everything in between. To put it frankly, they don't give a fuck so why should I.
There is another reason why reputation matters. That is how people you want to do business with perceive you. If potential sponsors, players, managers, financial backers etc etc think you are dodgy, they are much less likely to agree to any proposals you make. Pep, for example, needed reassurance from Khaldoon that we would see off UEFA. We don't know how possible replacements for Etihad view us. If they are not familiar with the ins and outs of the Pl, they might shy away. Henry Winter called Levy a shrewd negotiator. I beg to differ: people are wary of dealing with him. At least 6 managers said no to him when looking for Poch's successor. The Kane business simply confirmed the view that he was not to be trusted. It all comes back to harm you in the end.

The thing I really don't understand is they do now have a very decent squad, maybe not at our level but the gap has closed, BUT, they have a complete idiot in charge, why?

A top quality manager and a decent CM and the the rags could challenge.

In a few months we'll be commemorating the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, which we're still resisting taking responsibility for. We recently commemorated the 200th anniversary of the Peterloo massacre. Can we hold our hands up and say they're clean?

When we hosted the World Cup in 1966, 900 years after we effectively became a sovereign nation, it was against the law to engage in a homosexual act and the police actively set out to entrap people into these. Yet we talk about gay rights in a country that's culturally far more socially conservative than we ever were in the Victorian era (and probably always will be).

I'm sure it hasn't escape your notice, as it's been all over the news, that two women were recently murdered when they were out and minding their own business. What happened to their rights as women?

And look at the clubs leading the moral indignation over this.

Liverpool - whose owners have been convicted of wholesale cheating in the other sport they operate in, who knowingly stole our data, who have the names of two convicted money-laundering institutions on their shirt and whose fans murdered 37 people they didn't agree with.

United - whose ultimate finances are hidden in a tax haven, accept sponsorship from the state-owned Russian airline, a regime that routinely murders journalists, whose owners put nothing into their club and it's local community and who've saddled them with debt they never had before.

Arsenal - whose shirts implore you to 'Visit Rwanda', where they have one of the most repressive regimes on earth and whose billionaire owner also puts nothing in but takes money out in "consultancy fees".

And all of those clubs (and others) owned by citizens of a country where their police force routinely humiliates and even murders black people who have committed no offences. And where they allow their citizens to walk around the streets with automatic rifles which they use to kill people indiscriminately, including young schoolchildren.

You get the picture?
Football is rotten to the core?

Again, you're quite right, a more than decent squad for sure,
but an amateur in charge of it. Old Rags I know are pulling what's left of their hair out in frustration.
Such a shame.

Does anyone know anyone who's a member of the FSA ?
I am a member of the FSA. You just register to join. No fee. They send me emails on various subjects asking for my views, eg Tracy Crouch's review of governance, and they made a submission to her. As far as I can tell, they are self selecting and not considered important or representative, but I don't think they are nerds. They are, however, well connected. Don't know how they are financed. I joined when I read a story with a link to them and just clicked out of curiosity.

I'm an individual member and both the OSC and 1894 Group work with them regularly.

Yep, Levy is lauded by know nothings as a tough negotiator, because they don't know the difference between astute and stubborn.

Kane might be as dumb as a dog biscuit, but I believe him when he said he had a verbal agreement with Levy. All the Talkshite talking heads said a verbal agreement means nothing, when what they meant is a verbal agreement with Levy means nothing.

Hand on heart, does anyone think Khaldoon would make a verbal agreement with one of our players and renege? I don't think so.

I didnt make the wide sweeping statement.

You mean like putting my fingers under the words !

"but the Country is no longer defined by that period of history" is fairly sweeping statement when in the last few weeks a political dissident whose prominence most would know from the movie "Hotel Rwanda" about the massacres was forcibly transported back to Rwanda from Dubai against international law for a trial which many observers including Geoffrey Robertson QC stated was "a show trial and not a fair judicial inquiry". The fact is, the echoes from that period of history are still reverberating today.

You may may to update yourself on the recent enforced disappearance and show trial of Paul Rusesabagina before making such a wide sweeping statement.

The World is corrupt mate, African countries have a long history of endemic corruption.
My point was that it had improved drastically from the days of genocide.
Even in Britain it is possible for people to commit suicide in a lonely spot , or be found suddenly dead in a hotel room.
I have yet to identify a country that is devoid of corruption at the highest level.
New Zealand is highlighted as a bastion of democracy and freedom, try convincing the natives of that .

It's those pesky humans, a dodgy species.
