Burnley (H) | Post-Match Thread

That was Pep ball at its worst today.

Lots of pointless passing but three points, clean sheet is all that matters.

Burnley’s support was awful today. Only sold two tiers and quiet all the way through. Never shut up outside on the way to the ground!
Funny as fuck hearing them trying to get 'is this a library' going and I could barely hear em 2 blocks away. In fairness we were very poor today on that front too

It was a drab game. Burnley fan outside on way to ground said to me “anything less than our usual 4/5 nil drubbing will be a good result for us” they usually sell 3000 though so surprised by their low turnout.

Atmosphere only really got going when word got out about the rags losing.

Yeah longest/loudest sustained period of noise was when they went 2-1 up, was a good laugh but we should have it in us to give that for our own lads

Because he’s a top player, and he might not be showing it now, with us. I can guarantee though if he does move it will be to a c/l team and a fresh start will see him starring for them, like he has for us before.
Disagree. Can’t imagine there’ll be many teams fighting for his signature. His form has declined rapidly. I’d happily any money for him and use it for a top striker.

Good result against a doggedly shit team who make everyone look bad . Steffen pkk ok Ayer good when needed but he is no ederson ake was ok but he will never dislodge our main hitters at the back . Kdb was until the goal way of the pace. Mahrez was terrible and he needs to get better and as for sterling well he was typical sterling and the sooner he is gone he he better it will for us . Bernardo silva is on another level atm . All in all we can’t play great every week .

Raz’s role in the team today was make space with movement and the tap in cut backs. If Mahrez haven’t been a greedy twat in the first half then he’d have scored twice and therefore done his job. I can’t see a way back for him as a regular starter with us and it’s time to go, but don’t think you can really fault him as much as some one eyed supporters are doing today. But I wouldn’t expect anything more from our lovely supportive fan base nowerdays
Great 3 points. Was worried when I saw the team sheet. Brilliant from Bernie, Rodri and Stefan
I always think that when we play packed defences we need someone who can dribble past a couple and capitalise on the space created, but we have players who can dribble into space by going in the opposite direction to the one the defender was anticipating. Raheem, along with Foden, Bernie, Kev, can do this. Defenders know he can which invariably fills them with thoughts of the brown stuff. Had Mahrez been on a decent touch for the whole of the game Raz could have had a couple of goals. The one in the first half was probably the easiest chance a player could have had, had it gone through to him.

Guess we’ll see. He’s a far better player than some on here give him credit for. I still think the club would like him to resign.

looked like a pen on Phil at the game towards the end? Yes or no?
That was one of the half dozen pens I called this afternoon. The pick of the bunch. It met the criterion of a penal offence as written in the LotG. Unfortunately the Time Lord has a different set to the rest of us. It was a barge in the back, but if yer don't award penalties for the blatant holding at corners yer not gonna get a wee shove in the back, particularly if yer 2-0 up and Atkinson is in charge of the whistle.

Glad for the 3 points, Bernardo , KDB & the clean sheet.

Its nice to dominate and control the game, but Pep needs to improve the team in the final 3rd.

we are getting better defending a score and really did not really look like losing after we scored
yes a silly mistake can happen anytime and normally when we do it then its at a cost of a goal but they are becoming less and less. pep will live and die on his setup and the false 9 rotation. but yes the final 3rd is the killer in this squad
and we have to get better at finishing but until we can bring in a striker or 2 we plod on

would also like to give a big shout out to Steffen with a solid performance
must be hard having to come in from the cold each week watching ederson but did great today and will go unnoticed by many because of a couple of slip ups in play from the back

It was an adequate performance , we got the job done and that is all , on another day Burnley take some of their chances and we end up drawing or losing , but we were also profligate in front of goal, we just didnt click today our creative players apart from Bernardo were all having games to forget
Grinding out results as we well know is part of winning a title , ww made hard work of an average opponent and the three points was the only thing that really mattered after the Dippers gave Watford a mauling, we have got a nice run of games now to put a few wins together and see what the Dippers are made of.

Burnley made it a bit hard but not that hard. They were miles better when Cornet was on the pitch. I have no idea why he was taken off, by far their most threatening forward. And after he went off we took total control of the game.

We lacked energy at times today but Rodri was class. Stones and Bernardo were excellent n’all.

de Bruyne and Cancelo’s passing was bloody awful today. Everything Cancelo hit was lazy. In a spell of four passes in the second half, he gave three away and stopped us attacking by passing backwards to nobody and Ake had to run after it with the other. Foden Mahrez and Sterling had poor games n’all.

But we won and we played around the same level against Southampton and didn’t win, so all good really.
Left-back Cornet wasn't fazed playing up top in front of hundreds and thousands at the Etihad

A player tells us all, he fancies fucking off during a period of form more suitable of a player due to retire. He should be nowhere near the team.

Zack had a very good game. Saved our bacon in the first half and never looked as though he was gonna fuck it up for us.
Zack Steffen, he's the best thing to come out of Pennsylvania since my goomah,

Usually a gimmie of a game but today it was the proverbial turd that just wouldn’t flush, till KDB sent them scurrying down to the sewers
